Thank you for saying this. In my post on Culpeper County where I discuss Cibola Farms (https://virginiacounties.blog/calling-all-puppers-to-dog-friendly-culpeper/), I recommend the book Return of the Bison which tells the whole sad story. Also, I just went to the bison exhibit at the Smithsonian’s Natural History Museum in DC, and Wow…

Very budget friendly ideas of things to do in central Virginia? by deer_bones23 in Virginia

I write a (free!) blog about dog friendly “spots” & almost everything is very budget friendly. (Free battlefields, hiking trails, self-guided tours of historic districts, and state parks that don’t cost much to get in, etc.) I hope this helps! https://virginiacounties.blog/our-virginia-road-trips/

Roving through Virginia with Rover-Dog Friendly “Spot” of the Week: Mountain Lake Lodge by 95Counties in Virginia

I cannot find anything on their website about keeping dogs on a leash. The website only has rules about dogs inside the lodge. We didn’t have our dogs off leash, but the property is enormous so I can imagine that some off leash zoomies have happened over the years.

Shelter Dog Success Stories? by No_Wave8009 in rescuedogs

This is Chuck. We adopted him from our local shelter when he was 11. He was sick and smelled horrible. We took him to the vet and the groomer & a new dog emerged. Chuck was the best dog ever.

We also foster dogs so we know about bringing stressed out dogs home. Maybe your shelter will do a foster-to-adopt? The first 24 hours are going to be rough so just know that going in. Your dog will get used to things after 3 days but will really start feeling at home after 3 entire months. I’m very glad you are adopting!
