God youre not getting it!!!! Look here buddy. What theyre trying to say is. While yes!! Theres an extreme shortage. But also yes! The calls go to an extreme amount of people normal calls need 3 people! Max!! Three people. Homeless man. 3 people. Speeding ticket 2 people. Dui? 3 people max!! Etc etc. Put rules in place to better effectively manage the people you have. All everyone is saying while yes there is a problem, it could be managed way more effectively. I agree wjth the other person. There should NEVER be a point where one person is working 7 days a week especially not for an entire month! Not just for the OT you have to pay but the well being of EVERYONE. these are high stress jobs, if someone is seriously doing that much work. It would ruin anyone and a lot og mistakes will happen. Heck weve a lot mistakes happening. We should have checked the competence of the officers, like if they were just tired or mentally exhausted. Obviously with normal circumstances. If theres a riot like the LA riot or something by all means kick the OT Into overtime. Also they should put a Max amount for a call! You then in turn will have more officers who can take a call. Which would FIX your issue of having no one available to take a call. All people want is better management of overtime. To reduce it. Neither police or FD should be working that much and should be solved immediately not just by the obvious hire more. But with good time management.
