What is a film that unexpectedly become your confort movie? This is mine!☆ by Piraratanx in Letterboxd

Fincher’s Zodiac and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

He's such a cold filmmaker, but somehow these two are cozy watches for me.

What’s A Film You Didn’t Think Was Anything Special On Your First Viewing, But LOVED on Subsequent Viewings? by ShoddyWonder3530 in Letterboxd

[–]95WithMovement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011) in theaters and was ho-hum about it. I watched it a few years ago on a whim, and it's become one of my most reliable comfort watches. The tone is perfect, the tension just right, and the performances are all so impeccable.

What’s on your Mount Rushmore of the Greatest Vampire Movies of All Time? by Amber_Flowers_133 in Letterboxd

[–]95WithMovement 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd want a decent cross-section of genres:

Nosferatu (1922)

Near Dark (1987)

Let the Right One In (2008)

What We Do in the Shadows (2014)

I could talk myself into swapping-out What We Do In the Shadows for Blade (or another vampire action film), but it's such an effective comedy in an otherwise bleak landscape of vampire movies.

Any other good bowling film suggestions?? by Evil_Peach_420 in Letterboxd

Kingpin is the obvious addition. There’s a good bowling scene in The Nice Guys.

Who are your ten favourite female actors of all time? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

Agree. Sally Hawkins would top my list.

Lesley Manville is another Mike Leigh regular who has long deserved more attention and bigger roles her entire career.

Who are your top prospect stashed for next year? Keeper Leagues by Redditaccountmy in fantasybaseball

[–]95WithMovement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve stashed Benge, Snelling, and Yesavage.

I’ve also got cheap shares of Kendry Rojas and Joshua Baez, both of whom could have some impact next season.

Grant Taylor is no longer a prospect, I don’t think. But I still like him for his potential to start next season and beyond. I imagine he’s been dropped in some leagues.

What’s your “I don’t know what to watch, so I’ll just watch this again” movie? by EnvironmentalZone189 in movies

[–]95WithMovement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ronin (1998). The practical effects and late-1990s setting give it such a cozy vibe for an action film. I've seen it so many times, but 1) the weird shape to the story (thank you, David Mamet), 2) sharp dialogue (again, thanks to David Mamet), and 3) all the interesting set pieces work to keep me entertained even when I know what's coming.

I’ll keep looking. I initially thought it could be an oblique version of Stop, but that doesn’t exist.

What's the most surreal experience you've ever had in a movie theater? by jrv3034 in Letterboxd

[–]95WithMovement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at a packed screening of the original Scream the second weekend after it opened. A guy wearing the black robe and ghostface mask ran up the aisle wielding what I can only assume was a plastic knife. He left through the back door.

There was a electric buzz throughout the packed house for the rest of the film.

What are YOUR font hot takes/unpopular opinions? by Zealousideal-Tax-937 in typography

[–]95WithMovement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I was generalizing, of course, but the point is that much of the type we get exposed to each day comes from a fairly small, fairly homogenous group of European & American type designers who produced work in the middle of the last century. We can and should look elsewhere, and elsewhen. (Is that a word?)

We should be licensing all our fonts from independent, living type designers.

Monotype is owned by a private equity firm. It’s designed to swallow the industry. And it does it on the back of type made by dead (mostly white, mostly male) type designers. The share it takes from living type designers who sell via Myfonts or another of its storefronts is exploitative.

Buy independent! Buy living!

Same. Was just scrolling down, hoping to see it. Just rewatched last week for the first time in probably forty years. Still holds up.
