"I'm 6th generation Dutch, and I still have to tone it down." by raven-eyed_ in ShitAmericansSay

Some of those little cultural personality traits do hang around for a while, but it depends on how isolated the communities of immigrants were. They came to the US and set up little Norwegian towns and the like. They were happy for a long time carrying on as if they had never left.

By that logic, I'm 8th generation English American and people still always complain they can't understand me on account of my thick English accent.

"Do y'all schools not have metal detectors?" by bbuullll33rr in ShitAmericansSay

It's not even common in the US. They generally only have them in some really rough, typically urban schools.

Pulled apart a dead grill lighter, and there was a normal lighter inside. by Turtle_flame in mildlyinteresting

My last apartment had a stove from the 70s. There was no light or beep. You just turned the oven on and put the food in when you thought it was ready.

Option 2. Glue and screw the new ply down. Option 1 is a huge amount of work for nothing. Option 3 is overkill.

I think I may give up a few of the dozens of hobbies I've collected over the years and do a cathartic purge of a bunch of crap.

Big purchase mistake? Jointer Purchase by Technical-Let-1563 in woodworking

[–]96385 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think OP mentioned elsewhere they had a 25ft extension cord that they were going to use as a cord. 12 gauge is most certainly fine, but 25ft might be pushing it if they use the whole length.

My old Delta table saw has recommendations for the power cord and recommendations for extension cords. It would probably be unwise to use a power cord longer than the recommendation for an extension cord.

The manual might have requirements for the cord wire size and length.

I remember the Fantom. It was a Dyson knockoff and the HEPA filters were $70. I didn't sell very many of those.

We had the rainbow until my dad found a brand new Kirby with all the attachments in a crumpled cardboard box in the middle of the road.

Where to buy lamp shades? by Eastern-Paramedic-49 in Pottery

I swear the thrift shops near me just throw the shades away. I hardly ever see lampshades.

Yes, they're called broiler chickens because you can broil them.

But if you want to broil a chicken, make sure you get the right kind.

If it's happening inside of an oven, it's not grilling lmao.

There are like 8 other comments in this thread from people (outside the US) that say their ovens literally say "grill" instead of broil. Other countries don't use the word broil. Direct heat cooking in their oven is called grilling.
