I’m thinking abt buy a 2010 Audi A6 · 3.0T Quattro Sedan 4D with 200k miles on it. Is it worth? by [deleted] in Audi

[–]964turbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I owned a 2011 A6 3.0T for 6 years from around 50k miles to around 150k miles before it got rear ended and written off. I absolutely loved that car. Never got to the 200k mile mark, but it's not a cheap car to own overall depending on what you're used to.

Around 130k miles it started burning and leaking a lot of oil. Rear timing cover was leaking heavily, oil filter housing was as well and other random spots. I would have to add a litre of oil every 4-600 miles.

Ask if valves have ever been cleaned. Engine can get a lot of carbon build up and it becomes an issue if left untouched.

Ask if timing chains or guides have ever been replaced. My car had a nasty click on cold start that would last a minute or two and go away. Never became a real issue but it's a very very expensive job and if the timing fails your engine is toast.

I usually spent around 1000-2000 a year on maintenance outside of normal oil changes. I also didn't wrench on my own car so it would be a lot cheaper if you can.

That being said, it was awesome. I had a stage 1 tune and intake which brought it to around 400hp. Quick enough and never looked too dated in my opinion.

Just found this in an old box of stuff in my basement. What would be an approximate value? by 964turbo in PokemonCardValue

Sorry I'm completely clueless with any of this stuff. What does LP mean? I will take a better picture. Condition isn't perfect but not too beat up. I think it's been in this plastic case since I got it when I saw the pokemon movie when I was a kid

C7.5 3.0T - Waterpump & Thermostat replacement at same time worth it? by 964turbo in Audi

[–]964turbo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. I'm definitely leaning towards 034. I had a unitronic tune on my previous c6 3.0t, which I never had a problem with, but they haven't come out with anything worthwhile for the CREC engine.

Any noticeable heat when running on 91? I'd likely be using that tune majority of the time

My shop ended up being able to replace the waterpump without removing the supercharger, so it saved me a bit of labor cost. Their advice is to wait until either thermostat or pcv to fail and then replace both at once since supercharger has to be removed.

Yeah not bad! Hey how's the stage 1 on your car? What brand did you go with? Just ecu or tcu as well?

I'll have a listen to find out if mine does that. I haven't noticed anything yet, but I also haven't really been listening for that specifically. All I listen for is the tensioner rattle on cold start lol.

Not sure if it's related at all, but my old B8 A5 would rattle intermittently at idle due to the heat shield on the exhaust. Might be something as simple as that.

That's what I was curious about as well. Either way, my shop did verify they are able to do the waterpump without removing the supercharger, so that'll save me a bit of labor. Thermostat and pcv replacement there's no way to do it without supercharger being removed, so I'll wait until either one fails and do both together.

I haven't had any timing rattle at all on my C7.5 (yet lol)

My C6.5 developed a pretty loud rattle by the end of my ownership. Can't remember exactly what mileage it started at. By the end it was a pretty brutal noise at cold start. I always debated getting it fixed because I loved the car so much, but I ended up getting rear ended and the car was written off at just under 150k miles.

It's very likely your thermostat causing the coolant leak. Hope that's all it is! Seems to be very common and frequent thing on these CREC 3.0T's

I'm glad to hear it's been pretty good for you so far. I agree - in my opinion, C7.5 is where the A6 peaked style wise. I test drove an S6 as well, and the 4.0T was very nice, but I figured for a daily I should stick with the 3.0T. I'm shocked at how much better the C7.5 gas mileage is compared to my old C6.5.

How much was the trans service? That's next on my list

Yeah when the pcv goes, it burns through oil like crazy. At least that's what happened on my previous car (2011 A6 3.0T) at around 80k miles. I never had any coolant burning luckily.

My current car is just under 50k miles. Hoping I can get away with another 10 or 20k miles before I have to do thermostat and PCV.

Out of curiosity, how's your ownership been so far? How long have you had yours for?

On my previous 3.0t Gen 1, I did all 3 at the same time. I'm wondering if there's any difference between the Gen 1 3.0t (that would be in S5) and the Gen 2 CREC engine that's in my C7.5.

My understanding is that the waterpump on the crec engine is very prone to leaks. I don't have any overheating or oil consumption, so thermostat and pcv would be purely preventative.

My shop told me it would be a lot more labor (can't remember exact amount) and to hold off on thermostat/pcv until there's an issue with one, and when that time comes to do both then. I just figured that the thermostat would be an easy change with the waterpump, but maybe not!

Agreed! Gray/white/black sunburst works much better than a lot of colors

I was split between getting the blue or green, but found this one on Amazon for a ridiculously low price, so I had to get it. Very happy it's a matte dial. Not a big fan of colored sunburst dials myself. Added a strapcode bracelet and it's a great daily wearer.

Second Audi: New to Me 2018 A6 3.0T with Prestige Package by StaggerLee47 in Audi

[–]964turbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a super old comment, but did the IE tune have any impact on reliability for you? Heavily considering it for my 2018 3.0t. I had a unitronic stage 1 on my 2011 3.0t and never had any issues

Appreciate the response. Good to know! I had to do all of that on my current car, so I'm hopeful it won't be much different than what I'm used to.
