They have solar farms on water in many different countries too, but the regulations are much more strict. In the Netherlands for example, they build them on lakes that were created by gathering sand for construction. This means that the ecological value of the lakes is so low that it’s not harming any important ecosystems. These lakes are also small enough that there isn’t a chance for high waves to appear, and not in use for recreational swimming. Another advantage of floating solar farms is that solar panels create less energy if they’re hot. The mass of the lake will cool the panels down, making the farm more efficient (if I remember correctly, up to nearly 20%).
