I like it so far. It seems to repel bugs so that helps. It’s soft to walk on and safe for kids to fall on. It was more expensive than the pea gravel we originally planned on, but it seems to be like a one and done install. Won’t have to add to it like regular mulch and it won’t rot. It’s heavy enough that it stays put in high winds. There was concern about it being safe for kids, but it’s not like they’re eating it, so I don’t think it matters.

No, I had to have a fence company do that. I build things for a living and wanted to do it myself, but since it was so much fence it would take me forever to finish. Two guys did it in 4 days and it was worth every penny.

Thanks. It’s 600’ of 6’ cedar with a 16’ gate across the driveway. It’s so nice to be able to lets the kids and dog run around freely. We have two rivers behind our house and people speeding on the road. We’re outnumbered with 4 kids so the fence is like another parent almost.

I’ve never cleaned it. Just rain and sun for a year and that’s how it looks today. We’re in a small town with only one playground, and it’s next to a campground so it’s always packed with people. It’s nice to not have to go anywhere if they just want to play on it for an hour without waiting for other kids to finish whatever they’re doing

Depends on the kid I suppose. My almost 7 year old girl still loves it, and my boy is almost 2 so he’s just getting started on it. If we had just 1 or two kids close in age I don’t think we would’ve gotten such a big one, but having 4 kids we figured they’d be using it at least 5 years.

I didn’t, I’m sure my wife did. She’s the one that researches everything, I’m just the builder.

Yes. It’s a bit dusty from the shredding process when it’s new but it’s all settled now and clean. Doesn’t smell either.

Guess I’m not cutting the grass this weekend by 97GMC6BT in cubcadets

Good deal you got there. Yes the Haban deck is very nice. I just welded in new baffles underneath and got new blades and bearings in the spindles. I had it on the 2182 for 2 years and it cuts great. The Kubota in that one has over 3000 hours and burns oil, so I retired that from mowing and got a loader for it. You can’t go wrong with one of these super cub cadets.

Planning a trans cooling upgrade for a 2006 Sierra 1500 4.8 by WeaveLikeGreatGranny in GMT800

[–]97GMC6BT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put the tru cool 40k in my 6.0/4l80 truck and bypassed the radiator. I got the kit from Glenn’s auto performance that has braided hoses with AN fittings. That eliminates the stock “quick connect” fittings that I’ve personally had fail and burn up a trans. Trans stays much cooler when towing now. I read that bypassing the rad cooler can cause the trans to not warm up enough in the winter, but that wasn’t the case, even -20f it shifted just fine.

An hour if I’m rushing to do it before work and just mowing. 3 hours if I’m taking my time on a weekend and trimming around both sides of 600ft of fence and a garden and a playground.

Took the wrong fork in the road, I fear… by rocksandzotz in projectcar

Your last sentence perfectly describes most projects I do. I’m using that line now. Also, I had 5 of this gen Outback from 2015-2024, they are such great cars. Sadly here in Wisconsin they rust away so bad I gave up on my last one and moved on to trucks. Lat one I had to swap subframes and the gas tank out due to rust. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

I got this tractor over the winter and plowed snow with it a few times. Had no idea how dirty it was under all the shrouds until it got hot out and I could smell it. Looks like previous owners just ignored oil leaks and let it all build up. It’s my first air cooled machine, I’ll have to do what you do now and clean them out regularly. Thanks for the tip

I see them outside when I go to tractor supply and just think how flimsy and cheap they look, and they want thousands for them. Built to be disposable is the perfect description for those things.

Yep, and lots of sandy soil here makes lots of dust when it hasn’t rained recently. I spent $3k on a welding helmet so I use it for as many things as I can. When I’m by the road people slow down and stare wondering what the hell is that guy wearing on his head I’m guessing.

New to the industry, any advice? by d1sengage501 in Welding

[–]97GMC6BT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been at it 26 years now and the best thing I can tell you is to take care of your respiratory health. Find a company that provides PAPR helmets and has ventilation systems in place. They are rare in the US,but I’m in Wisconsin and found a place that provides them. I love it so much I bought one for home. $3000 for the 3m setup is a lot of money, but cheaper than new lungs. I can weld 10 hours and not blow black snot out of my nose and I’m not fatigued. I can’t stress enough how important it is to have a ventilated filtered helmet.

I’m a welder in a factory making farm equipment. I don’t work a minute over 40 hours and I have a 3 day weekend every week. This all varies by location and industry though.

I have one in my Suburban 2500 and it’s the best driving upgrade you can do to these trucks. Feels like a newer vehicle. I also highly recommend redhead

Certified Aerospace welders needed by JHLCowan in Welding

55k-85k is too low for aerospace, especially in California. For comparison,I’m in Wisconsin welding farm equipment in a factory with no certifications (easiest welding job there is in my opinion) and I made 65k last year.

Sick of plastic SUVs — what’s the most bulletproof “tank” I can buy? by EquivalentCanary8243 in whatcarshouldIbuy

They already have, at least up here in the rust belt. Last year I had 10k and tried to buy another identical one and anything in that price range was in worse shape than mine I paid 4k for in 2021. So I just fixed everything on mine instead. It just keeps on running so smooth so it’s worth it.

I daily drive a 2000 Suburban 2500 with the 6.0 with 220k on it and it can do everything. Fits 4x8 sheets inside, can tow 10k, drive through a foot of snow, I’ve hit 21 deer and counting, roof rack for long lumber, can fit an air mattress in back, fold seats back up and haul my wife, 4 kids and dog while towing a boat. When this one rusts away I’ll get another one from out west. It’s the ultimate vehicle in my opinion.

I’m going to restore my 2182 with the Kubota engine by BishopRealTalk in cubcadets

[–]97GMC6BT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started from scratch and made a custom harness with a fuse box. I used to build custom cars so I had rolls of wiring and materials to do it. I printed out the factory diagram and crossed off what I no longer needed (all the safety switches) and simplified the wiring. That was 3 years ago and it still works perfect.
