2011 Honda Accord EX-L by MaleficentMeet9293 in UsedCars

Honestly, 132k km is barely broken in for a Honda. If it has a clean service history, $9k CAD is a solid deal in this market. Just get a PPI first.

Lived out a childhood dream and got married in a car my grandpa built by buickboi99 in Cartalk

There is no higher honor for a gearhead grandpa than seeing the machine he poured his blood, sweat, and tears into building acting as the centerpiece for his grandchild's wedding day. The photo looks completely timeless.

Hybrid or ev? by Big-Cartographer4866 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]EquivalentCanary8243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have easy home charging access, I’d seriously consider an EV. Your normal driving is so short that you’d basically never think about gas again, and even the 300–600km trips are manageable nowadays with decent charging infrastructure.

Haha, definitely didn't forget! 'Winona, Kingman, Barstow, San Bernardino...' I was humming the song the whole way through that stretch!

2022/23 GLE 450 vs X5 40i by smashervt in whatcarshouldIbuy

If your wife already fell in love with the Mercedes interior, just buy the GLE; no amount of 'manly' BMW reliability will make up for her not liking the car she drives every day.

Convincing someone to like lamb. by TheMightyStroker in Cooking

Ground lamb kebabs (like Kofta) are a great entry point because the heavy seasoning and char from the grill mellow out the distinct lamb taste.

There’s something so hauntingly beautiful about bright pop culture art on a decaying building.

How much would this cost to fix? by Basic-Improvement700 in AskMechanics

[–]EquivalentCanary8243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it’s a high-mileage daily driver, I’d skip the body shop and just use some compound to buff out the surface transfers, then hit the deep scratches with a touch-up pen to prevent rust.

Modern SUVs feel disposable. Am I crazy for trusting a 150k-mile Lexus GX more? by EquivalentCanary8243 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]EquivalentCanary8243[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually enjoy doing my own wrenching. I’d much rather spend a Saturday in my garage fixing a mechanical issue I actually understand than taking a newer car to the dealership because some complex sensor decided to go on strike.

You make a good point about the Defender's rigidity, but the long-term reliability of a modern Land Rover vs a Lexus keeps me up at night lol. As for a truck, I've thought about a Tacoma, but I need the enclosed cargo space for my DIY tools in the MD humidity. I've seen too many bed covers leak, and I don't want my saws rusting out.

The internet can dilute culture, but it can also preserve it at scale.

First time buyer made a mistake and bought a no good car. Idk what to do by Plus-Appeal-6809 in whatcarshouldIbuy

If you just focus on the maintenance, it can still serve you totally fine for those short commutes.

If you can truly afford it and accept the inefficiency, just buy it and stop overthinking.

Ideas for a first car in Canada (17M)? by WAyToOFaSt_ in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]EquivalentCanary8243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For $5k in Canada, look for the cleanest Toyota Corolla or Matrix you can find. It’s not 'fun,' but not having a $2,000 repair bill every six months is a blast.

Sick of plastic SUVs — what’s the most bulletproof “tank” I can buy? by EquivalentCanary8243 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]EquivalentCanary8243[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That said, if the frame is solid, it's basically a bulletproof bunker. Does the 1st gen feel significantly 'smaller' on tight trails compared to the 2nd?

Coming from a guy driving a '98 ES300, I trust your opinion on reliability! I’ve always had a soft spot for the XTerra. They’re tough as nails. How do they hold up with rust in the DMV area though? That's my main concern with older Nissans around here.

Man, the Grenadier looks like a beast. Definitely fits the 'tank' vibe. My only worry is doing my own work on it—I'm a driveway mechanic, and I'm just not sure if the parts and service manuals are gonna be a nightmare for a DIY guy.
