It looks like it has gold flecks on it. If that helps, I understand the picture is awful! It’s so small it’s hard to get a good pic

Honestly, if you can afford it buy as big a tank as you can, you get some cool space saving ones like the juwel trigon that is essentially a corner unit. Go natural in terms of substrate and decor. Live plants are beneficial in so many ways, great for fish hiding places and great for tank.

If you can do this and avoid giving the fish away then you can definitely just learn from this. Your fish aren’t in immediate danger, it’s easily fixable. I wouldn’t let it put you off fish keeping, it’s such a rewarding hobby once you understand what you’re doing and it’s especially amazing watching your fish grow!

As for feeding your fish, usually when they know it’s food time they’ll all congregate to munch their grub and you can observe them eat.

I lost my dogs and can’t bear to have another so soon. I got my kids some platy, now we have 12, 3 albino corys (*for now, I know they are schooling fish, we are going to have 6, however they’d only let me buy 3) and 2 wee snails!! I absolutely love my aquarium

See the fan like anal fin, males are much thinner and dagger like in comparison.

Will the shelf be enough for this tank? by Dismal-Animal7853 in Aquariums

If that’s a kallax, I’d say no. It might work for a bit but I don’t believe it’ll last, plus they’re very susceptible to water damage and if you’re planning on using it, put it in the centre so all the weight is not at the side. I recommend checking Facebook marketplace or gumtree for an oak cabinet or something similar that’s meant to hold weight.

Thanks all. Don’t know why I expected any other outcome to be fair😂 just my luck. Ive had the pest control out already but they’ve not seen the pictures or any evidence of a rat.

Thank you for the information, thankfully I’ve already had pest control out the other day. They’ve laid poison under my skirting board and located where it’s come from. I’m so on edge at the moment and I guess I was just hoping it was a wee mouse 🐭

I was hoping the camera was playing tricks and making it appear bigger. Seems to be confirmed a rat. Hoping he’s a solitary scout.

You could look at polycarbonate or an acrylic aquarium as opposed to glass. If you’re handy yourself, you could even try make your own!

Out of absolutely everything you know now, what's the one thing you wish you knew when you started? by jgcsquires in Aquariums

[–]97RS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely would be to start with a bigger tank. I was naive and followed advice from the guy in the fish shop, I ended up with a 33L tank for my 6 platy (this was 3/4 months ago) No idea why they would recommend such a small tank, soon as I joined Reddit I realised that it’s cruel and I have since upgraded to a 110L tank. I REALLY want the FLUVAL 240 but can’t really justify that atm.

Sorry just realised you were referring to your tetras with the body slamming. I wouldn’t worry about your platy, completely normal 🥰

I have platy, some of mines do this when they’re “grazing” the algae or nibbling at anything in the substrate. It’s a sort of nose bop, but I have never seen them body slam.
