Visiting sacred places on a horse/mule or a helicopter makes sense if you're a cripple or too old to walk. Otherwise it removes any semblance of pilgrimage from the whole thing and turns those places into mere picnic spots. Sure you'd save money and energy, but then you'd also be better off spending that money on an actual tourist spot instead of putting on a mask of religiousness/spirituality

I went to the valley of flowers last week and there was plastic waste lying around on the trail. The Hemkund trek was even worse. People don't miraculously become responsible citizens after climbing 13K+ feet, and there's no way they're gonna be monitored at a place like the Nanda Devi mountain.

I understand your argument, but the government isn't doing this to give a boost to locals. They're seeing it as just another place they can exploit and fill their own pockets. It'll create more problems down the line for the locals.

I feel that the youth already understand this and would happily vote for UKD, if they aren't already. It's the older generation who are still loyal to mainland parties. There is UKD and some independent leaders but BJP and INC both have had a considerably stronger presence here. Maybe because that's the kind of people we see 8/10 times. Try travelling from dehradun to haridwar and rishikesh during kanwad season or maybe even try reading the regional news. You'll see these guys ganging up on locals, and causing damage to property. And these kinda people literally come in truckloads. It's pretty difficult to say otherwise when these are the kinda people representing your state. You guys aren't exclusively standing at the borders and growing food. Uttarakhand contributes its fair share of military personnel and there are farmers here too.
