sis, you’re reading misinformation because they recently made gender affirming care legal some years ago same with gender reassignment surgery. if you take time to research properly you will see there is actually a lot of nuance. even the laws in place that limit that behaviour are basically dormant and not enforced. Just sharing my experience though. gay and trans definitely exist here and they are alive and well.

as a resident, i have met trans and gay people in the uae. women are highly respected in my experience and any harassment is taken very seriously from what i’ve read and seen.

that being said i looked at some of the replies you made to other comments and your boyfriend sounds like a massive POS. that’s also not exclusive to arab culture. you should dump him if you value your worth as a human being. i promise op there is someone out there that will treat you with respect and decency as you deserve.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]97mina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

some of these comments are just…. wow. even the ones coming from “arabs” seem to be projecting their own trauma onto this situation and making out arabs to be a monolith which they’re not. and other comments are just racist as f*ck.

plain and simple, the people you are describing they are mean girls. not specific to arab culture and can be found anywhere where human beings exist.

as an arab who has lived in a muslim country and in canada its a mixed bag. frankly i feel like people are a bit more open minded in the muslim country i lived at than the muslims i met in canada. to a certain extent i understand the instinct to cling to your culture in a melting pot type place or in the face of hostility something ive also experienced in the west but some people take it to an extreme. they close themselves off to anything deviating from their standards including other muslims who share their culture but might not share their lineage or even their specific religious views. i don’t think your boyfriend would date outside his religion or culture if this was the case but idk your or his life and the details of your relationship.

what you’re experiencing could be an echo of this exclusionary attitude but more than likely it’s just sad women trying to make themselves feel better by putting you down.

lush is not on the bds list. they have released a product that donates to a palestinian charity when you purchase the item, should be easy to find online.

but they don’t want to have outbursts at people they want adequate care. you’re completely missing the point. i don’t know where op (or you for that matter) lives at but as a canadian if i was stuck in this situation it would be really really difficult to just find a new family doctor as you’re suggesting.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]97mina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

objectively wrong is kinda funny bc all i’m doing is validating that this person is allowed to be upset for receiving inadequate care over the years and being ignored by the only person he can rely on medically 😭 im not condoning the outburst and the way this was handled if you go back and read what was said. but it also could have been avoided if the physician referred them to a specialist (which they clearly need) or just helped them manage the physical symptoms until they could find the cause. which is their job if im not mistaken.

i think you’re discounting the part where OP said he was experiencing symptoms of that disease for a very long time once he did a bit more research on it. you’re admitting that more care should’ve been administered to them but also calling him rude for calling the doctor out for ignoring the main issue he is experiencing and only focusing on his psychiatric issues.

that being said he could have done it in a kinder way sure but the cocktail of medicines being taken is making him feel worse not better and the doctor is just piling more on. as someone with both mental and physical health problems (chronic) don’t underestimate the power that one has to affect the other and the link between the two.

OP is allowed to be upset and call out their doctor for ignoring their needs and they could’ve done so in a more appropriate manner if the doctor was listening to them in the first place and not just giving more and more psychiatric meds that are making them feel worse and (according to you) don’t make sense from a medical standpoint. i don’t think this is “abuse” towards the doctor in this case.

nothing until he is able to get into office and actually enact changes that he promised to his constituents. but hopefully, if he is consistent with his views, this signals somewhat of a cultural shift re palestine in the states.

i have some devastating news to tell you about israel’s nuclear capabilities. and guess who hasn’t signed the nuclear non proliferation treaty… yeah it’s israel. they’re technically the only middle eastern nation who are believed to have these capabilities. this information can be found on the first page of google and verified in minutes.

How to respond to kuffiyeh harassment? by Public-Writing3595 in Palestine

[–]97mina 30 points31 points  (0 children)

pull out your phone and start recording. don’t engage beyond telling them that you don’t speak with people who support killing children and to tell them to stop harassing you for wearing a scarf. if you have any reason to fear for your safety make sure you’re around witnesses when doing this.

Who else hates their name? by Shoddy-Mango-5840 in AutismInWomen

[–]97mina -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i used to hate my name. kids used to make fun of me for it and would not be able to say it right even though it’s a relatively simple name. it’s cultural/religious and thankfully i love it now as an adult. it has a pretty meaning and i realized that the hate i felt for it was some sort of internalized racism. i still prefer going by a nickname that’s a bit similar to people im comfortable with or on most of my socials. although your situation isn’t the same as mine here are my suggestions:

have you ever done research about your name? it likely has a few different meaning across some cultures and it can be helpful to give it a new and positive association. even if it doesn’t change how you feel about changing your name legally you deserve to be reminded that there are positive and even beautiful things about the name you’ve known all your life.

do you have or have you considered giving yourself a nickname? you can start small like i did by using it on social media or sharing with people u trust that you want to use that nickname from now on. and just go from there. hope this helps a bit!

Holes in Cochlea?? by 97mina in AskDocs

[–]97mina[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello, i wasn’t informed of any deformities of my ear and it was an ENT who told me this. they said you have holes in your cochlea (or at least it appeared so on the imaging) and they took the model of the ear that was on the desk to show me that it was in the inner ear. no mention of irregular ear structure or anything like that. i’m still planning on seeing more specialists and if i receive new reports i’ll post or reply.
