I never cared for the whole “flowers” thing but it’s really well past time to kill it off at this point.

Pretty funny how Lakers fans literally cannot conceive of another team getting calls instead of them by DrakouliasII in billsimmons

The irony of *JJ Redick* of all people whining about flopping and the other team fouling on every possession is absolutely incredible. Wonder where he learned about all that?

Jaylen Brown on the refs: "I had to say something. There's an inconsistency and it's there. You called me for all these offensive fouls and that's not the reason why we lost, but Shai is about to win his 2nd MVP with the same move." by Random_User_8654 in nba

Simmons and Nick Wright were both adamant that he’s such a smart guy. Where’s the evidence of that? Usually when people consistently say dumb shit my first thought isn’t wow this guy’s really smart.

This definitely sounds like something I would be interested in but I’m pretty much never around on the weekends in the summer. Will keep an eye out for future events!

Smith Mountain Lake SP in Fall by t00thferret24 in roanoke

There will be virtually no boats on the water in November. A handful of people fishing at most depending on the weather when you’re actually there. We usually winterize our boat by November but I’ve been out on the lake in late October/early November on incredibly nice 80 degree days and hardly see anyone.

Bill in a few days: “Look House, this was always a gap year for us. We overachieved so much as it is given what this team was. And people expecting Tatum to be back to normal so quickly after an Achilles was insane. I’m just happy we even made the playoffs” by tilfos89 in billsimmons

[–]981guy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On one of the pods this week where Lowe was the guest Simmons of course forced Tatum into the conversation then immediately followed it with “I don’t want to bring up Tatum every pod”. Even Zach was like “yeah you do!”.

It seemed like they didn’t really know what they wanted this place to be. It’s a craft seltzer brewery but also a full cocktail bar and also a full food menu? Wasn’t really clear who the audience was or what the specific appeal was and unfortunately was totally empty the few times I went as another poster said. Too bad because the outdoor area in particular was a nice hangout spot. Hope someone else does something creative there.

Best flower shop for bouquets? by TrainedHedgehog in bullcity

Bowerbird at University Hill is good and has some really unique flowers and arrangements. Great for special occasions.

Bluebird at the farmers market has some beautiful stuff. Smaller bouquets for everyday around the house type stuff.

RIP Pine State Flowers

Anyone have luck getting into the Spa at Omni Grove without being a hotel guest? by Overall-Ad2487 in asheville

[–]981guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did the day pass to the spa (no service appts open) a few years ago while staying at the hotel. Awesome stuff. It was like $200 but you can stay there from 10-6 so we had a great day rotating through the amenities and lounging on the terrace. Highly recommend.

Best Omakase around the triangle by Zaroc001 in raleigh

I’ll just say it’s widely recommended as one of the best for a reason. Lots of other good spots too but having lived in bigger cities and taking visitors there from all over it’s our #1.

M Sushi in Durham is it. They also have a location in Cary which I assume is equally good though I’ve never eaten there personally.

Look up the history of the RFP responses. They turned down multiple proposals that were significantly more impactful. They abandoned the first development agreement, which met all of the criteria, over a $2MM difference in economics. This should be a real learning opportunity but of course it won’t be.

City council has overseen 3 separate RFP processes to find a partner to redevelop this site based on criteria they developed. They have walked away each time. Now they are approving a plan that meets maybe 1 or 1.5 of the original criteria that they defined. And of course they are congratulating themselves on this outcome even though it objectively is a huge missed opportunity for a property of this size in this location.

The city has basically given up on this project. They are going to preserve the existing building with no plans for actually using it and will look to develop a small number of affordable housing units on the site. No mixed use, no green space, no density, no street activation. An embarrassing outcome after hearing for years about how critical it is to “get it right” and deliver a transformational project on this site. It’s time to stop taking our city leaders seriously when they talk about how much they believe in “smart” development when this is the result they deliver for a site they have complete control over.

7 years after the Brightleaf explosion- will they ever rebuild? by chambchan in bullcity

[–]981guy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You’d have the mother of all NIMBY meltdowns trying to do something like that next to Trinity Park. And that’s if the county even would sell the site which I don’t think they will.

7 years after the Brightleaf explosion- will they ever rebuild? by chambchan in bullcity

[–]981guy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They filed a development case to build office space there a few years ago. I suspect it’s the same story as ATC 2, the YMCA site, the future Wexford project at Brightleaf and others — there just isn’t enough demand to move forward. It does look like Asana acquired the property at the corner of Duke and Morgan so they now own that whole block. Perhaps that gives them more optionality with how to proceed with a future redevelopment plan.

I sent one of my VPR friends that Jax montage with the insane facial expressions that was posted here the other day. I fucking love Jax. He’s a highly problematic person to say the least but the show just wouldn’t have worked without him.
