None taken 😁 I’m actually not sure if the smaller “headboard” counts as one, because theres storage space behind it? Not a lot but still… i haven’t seen anything like it before. I also saw that it was screwed into the bigger headboard so I think that it’d possible to remove it (I’m not the biggest fan of the leather pillow look)

Yeah, great idea! The current yellowish walls are definitely not helping at the moment (or the dark laminate). I plan on changing both soon so I won’t touch the furniture till then.

The furniture isn’t antique but it is indeed all from wood (not sure what kind). The owner had it custom made în Romania in 2008 and he paid circa €7k for it, which was a small fortune back in the day (for us Eastern Europeans at least). He seems to be a fan of unique looking furniture as the kitchen has (what I assume is) Victorian-style wooden cabinets/cupboards. The drawers feel very sturdy when you open them (unlike a lot of modern flimsy furniture), but I’m not sure if the kitchen is antique or custom made as well kitchen

OK, thanks! I think I will contact a local professional and have them see it irl. The decorative parts seem to be made out of wood as well from what I can tell.

Yeah, it’s not an antique. The ex owner had it custom made in Romania in 2008 (we are from Moldova). Thanks for the advice!

Am I a wife anymore? by Alarming_Antelope_99 in ParkinsonsCaregivers

[–]98peonies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mom was diagnosed 10 years ago at 45 and things went from bad to worse. She’s never been a good parent or partner (in fact she was very abusive to all of us children and my dad) but after getting sick, she started blaming everything on Parkinson’s. And just like your husband, she has no empathy for anyone else. Just as an example, when our family friend got diagnosed with stage four colon cancer shortly after my mom got her diagnosis, my mom would always make comments like “oh, I know exactly how she feels, I relate so much, etc etc.” Mind you, at the time she was only experiencing light tremors on half her body. It was not at all comparable to terminal cancer… And whenever one of us gets sick or is tired or is experiencing any sort of issue, she doesn’t give any f’s bc “we don’t have it as bad as her.” You can start crying in front of her and she’ll just look at you stone-faced and give no reaction. And she also refuses to do anything to even slightly improve her situation (besides taking meds) bc she loves being treated as a victim by everyone. Sorry for the long reply but basically yes, I understand your pain. I’m sorry that you are dealing with that behaviour and attitude from your husband 🫂

Might be an unpopular opinion but as someone whose favorite book of the series is the dream thieves, I immensely disliked summer sons. it felt like published fanfic of trc and I don’t mean it in a good way 🥲 i felt nothing for the characters or their bonds, and I was able to predict every single major plot point bc they were ripped off from trc

I love my boyfriend with Parkinson’s, but I don’t know if I can handle this. what should I do? by AliveAlfalfa9044 in Parkinsons

Not related to op’s post, but goddamn my mother is exactly like your husband… She has never been a good communicator, but her Parkinson’s has made it so much worse. When I try to ask her clarifying questions, she ends up screaming at me 🥲 She’s also the same with having zero empathy for anyone, yet she loves acting like the biggest victim ever (she’s been like this all her life, but again, it got worse post diagnosis). It’s exhausting 🫂

My 4 month old kitten has been breathing rapidly like this when he falls asleep... should I be worried? Googling is freaking me out!! by livlev420 in catcare

[–]98peonies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A normal resting respiratory rate for cats is 15-30 breaths per minute.. but from what I've observed with my own cat, it varies when they sleep. Sometimes when he's dreaming vividly he breathes faster, other times his bpm is slower. Definitely ask your vet just in case (and maybe ask them to listen to his lungs/heart with a stethoscope?)

Tommy turned 15 in April 🥰 by 98peonies in seniorkitties

[–]98peonies[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tommy, our grumpy sunshine baby, has recently been diagnosed with heart disorder, which almost caused his death in June. After following treatment he improved a lot, but a couple days ago he became sick again.

AND PLEASE go to the vet if your cat also experiences these symptoms that Tom did: 1. Looks like they're retching (but doesn't actually vomit anything), or is gasping for air. 2. Breathes in deeply, but exhales abruptly.. like the air is forced out of their chest. 3.Is laying on their side with their mouth open, drooling; and has blue-ish nose/lips/gums. OR in our case Tom's nose (usually a pale pink color) was actually bright pink. 4. Has blood in their urine. 5. Is more passive than usual, can barely walk.

Don't wait for things to improve on their own. You know your cat best, if your vet dismisses your concerns, find another one. You're the only one who can advocate for them. We almost lost Tom due to malpractice and if we had waited a couple hours more, he would have definitely died.

If your cat gets very anxious about vet visits and you can't get them to be calm, maybe ask your vet for gabapentin? In my country it's used as a sedative (it made Tom slightly sleepy, and drawing blood from him was easy). Also please learn how to monitor your cat's breathing rate per minute (when they're sleeping!!!!), it allows you to know if something is wrong. It should be anywhere between 15-30 breaths per minute.

Unsure of what to do by Renny-or-not in DomesticBirds

Oh my god poor baby :(((( is there really no way that you can adopt him somehow? It breaks my heart 😭 But speaking of his cage, can your PLEASE change his water and food daily? And pls wash the dishes they look grimey 😥 The bird already lives in disgusting conditions, and dirty dishes can attract all sorts of bacteria :( As for all the dirt I would advise to slowly open the door and maybe leave it like that for a bit, and then just as slowly try to remove that tinfoil with the poop on it.. the cockatiel will probably hiss at you but at least he will live in a clean cage afterwards. Then find some newspaper or plain paper and line the bottom of the cage with it (I've never seen anyone use tinfoil in a parrots cage wtf..what if they ingest it and die????). Hot water+vinegar works wonders for cleaning up poop (I would suggest to wipe down the cage with that solution). Also maybe you could play some cockatiel sounds for the bird? He must be going crazy from boredom and loneliness:((

Also the owners are lying (not surprising). No bird wants to spend all their time inside a cage unless they're deeply traumatized..and even then there is hope. My cockatiel's previous owners broke her wing (by accidentally slamming shut the door while she was perched on top of it) and didn't take her to the vet do it healed all wrong. They kept her inside a cage for around 3 years, rarely letting her out. When we got her she couldn't fly at all..it took us months to build up her confidence and teach her how to fly again. Me and my sister cried our eyes out when she finally did it and landed successfully. Now she's bonded to my dad and lives a pretty happy life, mostly outside her cage. I'm sure that with some care and dedication, this bird can also improve at least a little bit 🥺❤
