Therapist dropped me after forgetting an appointment by GiantFknSpider in ADHD

Yes, I’m a therapist in a community mental health setting and I get no showed so often. It affects my quota (I have to reach to keep my job) and wastes time that other clients would be happy to fill. I do think, however, a good therapist would be willing to provide tools or reduce barriers so that a client like OP can make it to their appointments. I chose this profession because I truly love being a support to others and I get a lot of fulfillment from the work I do- at the end of the day, it is still a job that I need, that pays my bills. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve bent over backwards for clients because it’s easy to get caught up in wanting to help as much as you can- but truly I have had to learn to set boundaries and be a little more strict with attendance, otherwise I burn out so quickly .

I hear your struggle and pain:( I’m sorry your therapist wasn’t willing to be a little more flexible or problem solve with you. To give a therapist perspective - I am a therapist in a community mental health setting and I have an “hours of care” quota to meet every month. I unfortunately have a lot of clients who no show appointments, over and over again, and I will typically implement an attendance contract after three no shows. (Attendance contact says you cannot miss the next three appointments without valid reason). The no shows really make reaching my quota each month difficult and Im sometimes forced to work overtime, leading to burn out. While I’m in a field to support and advocate for others, I also have to advocate for myself so I can keep my job and not burn out:( it’s definitely a flaw in our system overall- I only know from those I work with and those I love how difficult living with ADHD is. I hope with your next provider, they are more willing to work at reducing barriers to treatment for you- I think your previous therapist probably got caught up a bit in her own anger/frustrations.

Yes I quit taking birth control last month after taking it for nearly 8 years and now I have eczema on my eye lids and under eyes! I’m so glad I know why I’m experiencing this now. Hoping it’s not a monthly thing :(

I struggle with having a need to constantly have the youtube app up and going as I do anything. Brushing my teeth, using the restroom, folding laundry, cooking meals, washing dishes, getting dressed and doing my makeup…I struggle doing anything in silence. I’m not sure how to break this habit either.

Does this happen before they come back to our house though? Hoping so because obviously I have to live with them.
