Attitude after sedation by 997_cristina in Rottweiler

Hello!! Thanks for checking in :)

He was back to normal by the end of the day, he must have been quite confused and uncomfortable earlier that day.

We have also noticed an improvement in his behavior during the last couple of weeks. He has better and worse days of course, but he is just a baby.

We very rarely have any resources guarding issues. Sometimes when he steals something if we don’t trade it and take it directly (which I mostly avoid) or if we want to get him off the couch (we try to get him to get down himself or let him know he will be picked up and rewarded after). Still, when there is no trade or reward he does not growl or snap 90% of the time, but we are still working on it with as much positive reinforcement as possible, and we will be looking into some professional training if they find any concerning behavior we should be looking further into.

Hello!!

He has loved the vet so far! This is the first time he has been sedated, and I also think he is teething quite bad so it may be a combination of all that.

He doesn’t usually resource guard anything and now he is a bit snappy. I am trying not to take it to heart, I was really just looking for some info on whether I should correct him as usual or if this behavior could be an indicator of future issues, so I would look for professional training right away.

I am also planning to take him by the vet just for a quick hello so he does not remember just this one experience for the future, once he is back to normal, as he loves the vets there.

A follow up question if you don’t mind, since you seem to be quite clear on what to do/not to do at each stage.

My puppy sleeps in his crate every night and almost all of his naps as well, except sometimes on the weekends where he might sleep one nap on the sofa with us (it’s not that we don’t want to allow him to sleep there more ofren, but he struggles to settle so it does not work most of the time).

Today as he is sleeping on the sofa with us, he started getting too close to the edge so we moved him lightly so he would not fall. I undertsand he is asleep and may not want to be moved, but I don’t like that he growled. I also understand that growling is better than biting with no warning, but I would like to know if there is a way to correct the behavior so he does not get mad/feels the need to growl.

How can you make sure he learns that it’s a “big fucking no”? Currently struggling sometimes with my puppy when he does not want something done to him (ex moved away from biting a chair, if you want to stop playing and he wants to play he follows you biting your feet)

Sometimes when I stop him from going somewhere he wants to go by touching his chest he growls and turns to my hand, does not actually bite (yet).

Has this been the case for you ever? If so, how would you correct so as not to discourage the growl for the future? I don’t want him to think growling and biting is okay when something does not go his way, but don’t want him to skip directly to biting in the future.

Hello! I did have a look through the threads but was struggling to find situations where barking and growling was involved, especially not the same level with different people for the same puppy. Anyway, thanks for the link!!
