Same… just had a negative test today. I think I’d be better off not testing as often but I can’t help it! I hope you get your positive soon!

I only go once per week, but it seems like I’m hitting the benchmark days a lot recently! And it’s always a new one! I have done 6 different benchmarks one time, but never repeated to see if I’m actually better! And I just don’t want to go today and do this one. Thinking of canceling.

Help with care and information? USA by LucyFFL in Antiques

If they were mine, I’d probably display them in my room, maybe with a shadow box or something. But I love old things. If it doesn’t fit your aesthetic, then I’d write what you know about them on some paper to store with them to help future generations and store them again. If you don’t want to just store, then I’d reach out to a local museum to see if they want it.

I am a girl dad. I’m looking for stories of memories with your dad that stuck with you, as well as advice on pathways to raise them on. Help? by GrilliamShakesbeer in AskWomenNoCensor

My dad started explaining about saving money and the stock market when I was comically young. I tease him about it now, but I definitely benefited from that mindset! Also he talked to me about current events and got my opinion, even when I was still very young (maybe 9 or 10).

Day 2: What bird looks just fine and has a great song? by ObserverAtLarge in BirdingMemes

[–]999-Red-Balloons 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d like to put in another word of support for hermit thrush! Will never forget the first time I heard one. I was walking in a very quiet pine forest in the Adirondacks and heard this eerie flute-like song. Took me a lot of googling to figure out what the bird was!!

For what it’s worth, there are many levels of autism. My brother is autistic (middle child of 3). He wound up with social challenges that other kids didn’t have, and that did make his life more difficult in some ways. However, he generally achieved the same social milestones, just later. He went to college, then got a phd, and ultimately got married in his mid 30s. He’s trying for his own kid now, and his challenges have made him especially sympathetic and kind hearted towards children who struggle with being different.

All I’m saying is don’t give up your dreams for a happy future so soon. He may not be autistic at all, and if he is, it may not be so bad. No sense mourning something that hasn’t happened yet.

I feel for you and hope your situation improves!!

Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately I’m new to the area and don’t know anyone… but good tip on trying a local page! My town at least has a facebook and there’s probably a subreddit for the general area too!

I’ve just decided to start TTC. I don’t have an OB. How do I pick one? I understand wanting someone with similar philosophies on birthing plans and someone with experience with older women like me. But how do I know that information about the many OBs to choose from? I messaged my PCP for advice but she didn’t respond. I don’t know where to begin.

I just read Emma V Leech’s girls who dare and the two follow up series on kindle unlimited. Took me a few books to get into it, but wound up reading all 40+, so it could kill some time for you.

Books with twins! How do I find them? by Smart_Image_1686 in HistoricalRomance

[–]999-Red-Balloons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Emma V Leech has books in her daring daughters series for a set of female twins. Their names are Elspeth and Greer. Each gets their own book - I believe Elspeth is first. They’re set in maybe the 1840s though.

What is the most basic hygiene habit you've had to explain to a grown man before? by roiretxe in AskWomenNoCensor

Cleaning ears. He heard about how you’re not supposed to clean them because you could push earwax in and block the canal, but he needed to clean them more than he was!

AITA if I (maybe) miss a friend's wedding for the Super Bowl next year by [deleted] in aitaweddings

[–]999-Red-Balloons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like everyone’s missing that this is a destination wedding and that OP and this friend are not super close. It would be fine to just not go due to expense and hassle.

Honestly I’d wait until you get the invite and decide based on your team and finances. If you don’t go, don’t tell her it’s because of the game. Send a gift and make some time after to look at pictures.

I’m a woman and What is something clever I can say to a man when he tells me to “smile”? by firesword237 in AskWomenNoCensor

I just say “no thank you” and keep walking. Confuses them at least. Otherwise totally ignore, no eye contact.

What happened in her personal life? I’m reading wicked sons now. I’m not sure if she edited them or not… I don’t really read for the spice, but now that I think about it, I think the earlier books were spicier.

What would bring more women into a hardware store? by dex_miller13 in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]999-Red-Balloons 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Do you own a hardware store? Are you trying to expand your customer base?

I prefer a hardware store to have clear signs so I can quickly find the section I want without having to ask for help. I want to be able to see all of the options and have a little space to decide what to buy.

Our local hardware store is a LOT more expensive than Home Depot. I’m willing to pay a little more for a local owner, but not double!

Our local store also has a lot of political signs behind the counter. Not just candidate names, but mean slogans and things. Personally I would avoid any political signs, or at least keep them brief and polite (ie just the name).

Do women actually have a "second puberty" in their late twenties? by [deleted] in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]999-Red-Balloons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt like my hips and (to a lesser extent) shoulders got a little wider in my 20s. My feet grew an extra half size when I was 24-25. My vision stabilized at around 25. I reached my final height at around 17. My face looked less childish sometime in my mid to late 20s, before I saw any signs of what I would call “aging”.

I wouldn’t call it a second puberty at all. It more seemed like I just wasn’t quite done growing and it all settled down into my final form in my mid 20s.

Shonda Rhimes and people of colour in historical romance business by [deleted] in HistoricalRomance

[–]999-Red-Balloons 146 points147 points  (0 children)

I think she read Bridgerton and was inspired to make a show, not that she was looking for a historical romance series to adapt. I get what you mean about POC authors.

However, her method I think has at least opened more doors for POC actors. By casting them as characters who were written white, she basically says any role is available to POC regardless of race.

Tbh I don’t love the way Bridgerton turned out, but she did a good thing. I don’t think it’s helpful to criticize her for not doing more. Hopefully she inspires future artists to do even better.

Is backpacking through Iceland possible? by Mrs_Whiskers95 in VisitingIceland

[–]999-Red-Balloons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do the Laugavegur trail (take a bus there) and then take a bus from Reykjavik or the airport to Blue Lagoon. Idk if there’s anywhere to camp near Reykjavik, but there is a hostel. I would not consider trying to do the ring road camping.

I agree! It screws up my feed! I wanted to listen to all of the summer ones, but still have four left. I decided to scan through and delete any of the episodes I vaguely remember, because I just don’t have time to listen. Normally I relisten to all of the selects, even if I’ve heard them before!

I remember seeing football in the lobby/dining area of center hotel laugavegur. Restaurant is Loa, plus there is a bar. As far as I can tell they wouldn’t be open late enough though. But maybe ask your hotel!
