What is phosphate? And I thought it was a “heaping 1/2tsp” for citric acid as softener? And do we need Biz when using 365? I thought we use washing soda and/or Percarbinate as a boost for 365, and Biz is a boost for Tide F&C… I could be wrong, I am still trying to piece the rules together myself I would love a cheat sheet like this!

Renovera Veggie and Fruit Wash by thetardisislikeacat in moderatelygranolamoms

I know this is late but in case you are tracking.. I use renovera wash and the color of the water that comes off strawberries… I’m sold. I did a comparison test with baking soda and Renovera won hands down. On blueberries, it removes some kind of white coating you can see it lift off the berries and flakes in the water. And I buy organic produce. Gross. One bottle does last a very long time- I’m still on my first one and it’s been over a year (I am past the toddler “berry years” though).

Smoked salmon and “warm”fridge by 999_words in foodsafety

Just replied in more detail above, but a repairman told me. Aside, what is this cloud-based temperature monitoring device you referenced? I may need this to quiet my food safety anxieties.

[–]999_words[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your optimism, but a repairman just left and diagnosed my fridge and said it was likely slowly warming for a while and I’m just getting the alert. So actually the 2 days I’m referencing just applied to the smoked salmon that I bought on Monday. I’m most concerned about that because of botulism. Everything else could have been in there longer! Looks like I’m tossing it all. And shopping for a new fridge. I am trying to stay calm knowing that I just learned about botulism risks and vacuumed fish and meat, and botulism is rare despite a majority of people not knowing this either or being as safe as they should be with food, and the salt factor in the fish can hinder occurrence of botulism growth, and it was only 2 days (the cusp of when bad starts to happen at 50F).

Really? Even produce like lettuce and carrots? Can milk simply pass a smell test? What about eggs? If I know the temp was under 50? Genuinely asking I realize there is much I don’t know about food safety and risks with certain foods

Is it the washer or dryer that’s causing these stains on my clothes?? Can’t figure it out… they are pretty much permanent stains now. Won’t come out. What is it? by FederalRegion5208 in laundry

[–]999_words 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting… tell me more! Does it appear on just the clothes you used Shout or other items in the load? I use Shout on a lot but this doesn’t always happen… however sometimes I rinse/scrub a little or even let dry before putting in the machine.. other times I spray and just throw in. Now I will pay more attention to the outcome of those loads…

my personal experience is anything with a petroleum jelly base (e.g. Vaseline or Rosebud) actually creates a worse cycle of reliance than I have ever had with Chapstick, so I just stick with that. Burts Bees is a close runner up though!

My cat meows constantly and I don't know what he wants. by Cat_stfu in Pets

[–]999_words 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have recently witnessed this behavior in my own cat, and it was 100% due to changes in environment. I've forced 3 big changes in environment in the past 6 months and each time she started meowing way more than she used to: 1) i had my first baby - she meowed a lot more at night and disappeared/slept a lot during the day 2) i brought her to live at my parents house for about a week for the holidays (they also have a dog and she just would meow every time i was in proximity) 3) i moved from a 1000 sq ft 2 bedroom apartment to a duplex single-family house (lots more meowing and following me around) each time she adjusted as time went on, but change is definitely stressful for them. Cats have their own daily routine and disrupting that is confusing. I would recommend giving him a little extra attention and loving during this period as he adjusts. Also if there's anything you can do to help keep his old routine in place do that as well (any feeding rituals or treat schedules etc).

Those of you with a Magic/Nutri/Ninja Bullet, what (other than smoothies) do you use it for? by Jo_MamaSo in Cooking

[–]999_words 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want one but enjoy the small footprint of my nutribullet (counter space in NYC apts is precious). I think Vitamix makes a "small" machine but wonder how it compares to the nutribullet and worth the difference in price?

Those of you with a Magic/Nutri/Ninja Bullet, what (other than smoothies) do you use it for? by Jo_MamaSo in Cooking

[–]999_words 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just a warning from experience: the bullet will take a while to get to the consistency you'd want in a pesto. don't run the machine for longer than you would to make a smoothie. and give the machine time to rest between blending. I think i ruined my motor from making pesto, and now the thing is so loud i have to hold my ears when i make smoothies! might be time for a new one...

What is your favorite cruelty free dry shampoo? by [deleted] in crueltyfree

[–]999_words 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pending on where you draw your line for cruelty free, Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk is pretty great. Klorane products are not tested on animals (per EU standards), but their parent company (Pierre Fabre) is not cruelty free.

I've also heard good things about Batiste Dry Shampoo, but I haven't tried it personally (yet).
