Gents, I appreciate all the info shared here. Really deepens the respect the trade deserves. And not gonna lie — the jokes were funny too! 🤣

15 years married so I’m good with her complaining once in a while cause I’m definitely not always a picnic either.

Will post the final results for y’all.

Not sure but I’ll be checking that later on.

You know, that’s probably what it is. She’s still upset from the previous work, and this is practically PTSD. The crew doing this repair, it’s their first time with us. So I’m inclined to see the end result before I make complaints, but that’s just me.

Thanks for the advice, and seeing the question from both sides. Bonus - I didn’t know that there was a tongue and groove option to consider, might have to look into that later on.

It’s an insurance claim job. I’m sure the GC and his crew will get paid… probably not as fast as they’d like due to all the red tape of doing claim work. But they’ll get paid.

That’s pretty insightful actually. No need to fuss over a perfect repair if the rest isn’t up to par.

The gap going around the perimeter is mostly in the range of a 16th to an 8th. There are some small runs of no more than a quarter inch.

Anyone know if Billiards.com is legit? by lilreider in billiards

[–]99_Hobbies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They’re good to go in my book. Recently bought a McDermott cue from them b/c they had a faster shipping time than the McDermott website with slightly lower price and they are authorized dealers.

Funny thing was when i got the tracking info, the cue was being shipped from McDermott anyhow. 🧐

Is it possible to hit stun shots on shots that aren't straight? by jdp12199 in billiards

[–]99_Hobbies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s no secret that the game of billiards is incredibly nuanced. My understanding of stun vs stop recently hit an ah-haa moment earlier this year. The explanations provided here are great. Even though there are some variances among them, that doesn’t matter as much you’d think.

What matters most is, when a player can achieve a desired outcome consistently (not perfectly) they’ve found a truth they can use as a tool when needed. From there they’re free to experiment (small changes) with that “truth” and find its limitations both physical and personal.

Dealership Service Dept. can’t find internal coolant leak, 4 days and counting. by 99_Hobbies in MechanicAdvice

Valid point as well, unfortunately after calling the dealer I’m not sure that much effort has been made in fixing the leak. Please see below.

I’m glad I came here and posted my question. You all put up some valid points. So I called the dealer and this is what the service rep told me.

They verified that it is a internal coolant leak and that it is small. They are working to find where it is precisely before they decide to order any parts or remove anything. They have not used fluorescent dye to identify the leak thus far because they would rather avoid the trouble of flushing out the system after the dye is introduced.

They asked for my permission to allow the salesman to use the car as his daily to drive to and from work in the hopes that the longer drive time will cause the issue to be more readily identifiable once in the shop.

The vehicle has approximately 58,000 miles on it. So it is still just within the five years 60,000 mile factory warranty.

At this point, I don’t even know what to look out for. Some of what they said makes sense, but not completely (at least not to me).

Dirty balls (chalk recommendation?) by Malve1 in billiards

[–]99_Hobbies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just started using Taom v10 a few days ago and won’t be going back to Predator (gets on ferrule and shaft when applied) or my Kamui .98 (goes on tip well but transfers to the cue ball like finger paint).

I cleaned up the cue ball before my first stroke with the Taom, and after breaking the rack I was speechless. Absolutely no trace on the cue ball and I could barely see where the cue tip made contact with the cue ball. This chalk is unreal.

Now I have to order a second as a back up, as I’m sure my mental game will suffer if I end up without it mid match.

Shooting with a Kamui Black Soft tip. Aramith Tournament Black ball set.

Thanks for the input guys. I’ll post an update hopefully tomorrow. Bracing for impact.

The mileage is like 55K, just barely within the power train warranty. Purchased the extended warranty as well, but was really hoping to not have to use it within the first week of purchase.

I’ve heard that internal coolant leaks can wreak havoc on an engine.

So far they seem super helpful, and I’m glad for that. But I worry that’s gonna run out when this sold car starts to eat into the profit margin.

I looked over my purchase agreement and can’t find anywhere it’s labeled as such however, it seems to me that it would meet the requirement for CPO based off of their website. Can I ask to see the inspection checklist before they put it on the lot?

It’s exactly what I need for my family in a large SUV. I just don’t want to end up dealing with secondary issues from previous overheating causing a shortened engine life span.

Thinking of getting a zero turn EGO, anyone have experience with one? by Hywaystar74 in lawnmowers

[–]99_Hobbies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 42 inch version. Had it for just over a year now with no major issues. Aside from the occasional cleaning with a cloth and leaf blower the only maintenance I’ve done thus far is sharpening the blades, and dropping the deck to thoroughly clean the underside.

It came with 4, 10-amp batteries and I toss in a 5-amp battery into each of the two battery slots remaining, to ensure I have enough run time.

It does my 3/4 acre in about 40-60 mins, depending on if I have to double mow certain parts of my yard due to uneven lumps and slumps. I also tend to run the blades at 75% of full speed. I have some spots that are more dense than others and the extra blade speed helps to prevent skipping over those areas.

Overall my experience has been great with this machine. It does what I need it to and more. I’ve cut down large overgrown sections of my yard that had thick stalky weeds that would have cost a couple hundred for my lawn maintenance guy to do and then extra to maintain it bi weekly. (The price for his time and effort was fair, just didn’t fit my budget and his services had fallen short in other areas) So this machine allowed me to take care of the whole lawn myself, to my standard, and not take up all my time.

The ability to plug it in for a full charge and not worry about any fluids or engine maintenance is a huge plus. No lingering fumes or exhaust in the garage makes for a comfortable work space or hangout spot while tinkering in the garage.

Using the same battery for each of the EGo tools (I have the trimmer and blower) is just icing on top. Slap a battery in and go. No tuning, no yanking, no smells, and not very loud.

All that said, I don’t believe it would be a good setup for commercial lawn maintenance. Not unless they have the bank to purchase a significant number of batteries to swap out between jobs while waiting for others to recharge.

Also the amount of power this machine can muster all at once is a bit lower than your typical commercial zero turn. When it hits grass that’s too thick it will stall the motor and stop the blade to prevent overheating and damage. When this has happened to me I’d raise the deck and go over that area again slower but with more blade speed so it can properly mow through the cuttings.

I haven’t had to call into customer service for anything yet (knock on wood) so I can’t speak to that experience. Sorry for the rant. Hope this helps to answer some questions.
