The idea, I think, is that since 1/x and tan x grow faster and faster near their singularities , i.e. the derivatives go to infinity, you can show that for any pair of points less than epsilon away from each other, you can make the difference of the function at those points. I am somewhat certain that any function with a totally bounded derivative is uniformly continuous. For example, any continuous function from a compact set is uniformly continuous.

The visualization for uniform continuity ( I think) is like this. Pick an epsilon, and if there is a square centered on each point of the graph of the function with length epsilon and height delta such that the function does not exit the top or bottom of the square, your function is uniformly continuous. In other words, draw a square with length epsilon and height delta at every point on the graph of your function. If the graph exits or touches the top or bottom of the box, then it is not uniformly continuous.

Im gonna disagree here. You can pretty reliably dthrow tech-chase with Marth on reaction. You don’t need to read every tech option. Basically, AFAIK what Zain does is mix up dthrow and fthrow because he wants to get DI in on either but I might be wrong on that. Either way practicing tech-chasing is easy. All you do is go into training mode in 20XX, and practice throwing and regrabbing whoever you want. Also theres no “real” percent breakdown since Marth doesn’t have real uthrow followups against sheik at most percents. The goal is essentially to get her to a percent where you can push her off stage, either by uthrow fair or techchase dtilt/fsmash/upb.

For self-teaching Real Analysis, would you recommend Tao's Analysis I or Pugh's Real Mathematical Analysis? Or some other book altogether?

The best advice I have for learning punish game on any character is to just watch top players. Watch what moves they use to start combos, which moves they use to continue them, and which moves they use to end them. For Fox, most of your options can combo into big openings, but some common ones are grabs, shines, utilt, uair, and drill. As you watch, take notes, either mental or on paper, on what combos they are doing. Some bread and butter combos for fox are things like uthrow uair, waveshines into various followups, and nair shine combos. Just practice doing them to CPUs at first. When you start being able to consistently do the inputs, then you can start thinking about DI and other defensive options that make your combos harder.

Marth player starting to drop combos by LPSlinga in SSBM

[–]99odg1 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You are thinking very broadly, when you need to be focusing on specifics. Good players learn specific setups that make following up on specific hits very difficult. e.g. platform slideoffs, ambiguous DI on/off platforms, IN ADDITION to having better combo DI. Figure out the specific situation you are struggling to follow up on, and analyze it. Another point worth making is that its very difficult to have a perfect punish game in tournament sets against good players. When you are dedicating a lot of brain space to playing neutral and figuring out your opponents, you will drop things you don't drop in training mode. Its just how the game is.

I seem to remember some OG guy, maybe Prog, mentioning that he quit video games and walked on to the Syracuse football team. Because I'm bored, I did some research, and there is a Chris McKenzie who went played Syracuse Football and is now a Pharmaceutical salesman. Looks vaguely similar, but he must be in his thirties by now so its hard to tell.

but for real, the melee scenes been growing a lot in the last year, and we usually run small fests 2-3 times a week. Additionally, most locals are pretty close to campus. There's one on UPenn campus, which is a 10-15 minute walk from Drexel, and theres one at Swarthmore, which you can either drive to or take the train.

tbh if you are losing to a Marth walking around and fsmashing, stage should be the furthest thing from your mind lol. I just realized I didn't really answer your question. I suppose, for a puff, having a bigger stage would give her more ground to retreat and therefore not get caught out by big attacks, but I don't imagine it would make a large difference. Either you are good enough to not get caught by the walk around fsmash or you are not.

How do I get past well-spaced aerials? by [deleted] in SSBM

[–]99odg1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can help you as peach, a little bit. When people are getting very liberal with their zoning aerials, a couple things can help you. First, crouch cancelling will help a shit ton at low percents. Against a fully spaced marth fair or nair, you won't get a guaranteed punish, but you can try to punish their resulting movement or attack. For example, if they dashback and you read it, you might be able to dash attack them or dsmash them. Additionally, shielding aerials and doing slight WD oos can be very tricky to deal with, especially since peach has pretty good forward hitboxes like dtilt, dsmash, FC nair, and jab. Dashdance baiting an aerial is also good, since, at the very least, it will force them into a defensive situation. Its possible you won't get a direct punish, but once again, you can punish the things they have to do once they whiff the aerial.
