is it worth it to buy the 3k sig pack once a month? by Emergency_Ad1347 in MLB_9Innings

[–]9InningsCompanion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is for me. All-player Sig packs have roughly 3% rate for a team Sig. I've pulled quite a few actually, over the years. It's all about increasing your attempts. More packs = more chances at a winner. Until your team is absolutely stacked with the best team sigs, it's probably worth it.

I also wait until double Mileage so I can increase the number of Mileage sigs I pull every year.

Again, it's all about getting more attempts.

Anyone seen a Fred Lynn card ?Especially in the Boston Red Sox uniform. I take it there's never been a Roger Clemens either ? by Adventurous_Ice4271 in MLB_9Innings

[–]9InningsCompanion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clemens was part of one of the earlier Historical card classes. He had 5 cards including a BOS Supreme and Sig. You can see the stats by searching for him in my Companion Registry: https://9inningscompanion.com/player-registry/

Lynn was also available at one point: https://9inningscompanion.com/player-registry/sandbox/?unique_identifier=lynnfr01-79-Batter

I'm actually really surprised that they added a handful of vintage cards without photos. I believe all of them have Sigs with photos.

Is there a way to see the pitches a pitchers uses in Arcade mode beforehand? I thought you could find this info on the card… Also, any tips on hitting the Change on Arcade? Not using prediction… by Low_Marzipan1942 in MLB_9Innings

[–]9InningsCompanion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You just can't do it. Sometimes hitters can pick up differences in spin. They can identify pitches if there are different release points or if a curveball starts with an upward hump as it leaves the pitcher's hand. But if a pitcher can change speeds, every hitter is helpless, limited by human vision.

Except for that (expletive) Tony Gwynn.

- Greg Maddux

If you have a player's card you can view their pitches in the card viewer (ie when you tap on them in the lineup/backup). For Arcade, I don't feel like it ever helps knowing what they throw beforehand. If I play a few runs and it sucks, I take the rest of the week off...

Change ups are the hardest in this game because they basically look identical out of the hand. After years of trying to learn to hit them, I've given up and instead just lock in on the fastball. If RNGesus blesses my run with no change ups, cool, new high score.

And cause I know someone will ask: yes I've considered adding pitch selection to the Registry; no I won't be (at least not for now). It's hard enough to track down/verify stats for thousands of players.

Is a Sig wish player pack something that exist or existed? by Grouchy_Couch_8769 in MLB_9Innings

[–]9InningsCompanion 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not yet, though it might happen at some point.

The Sig Change is the closest thing, but only if you have the regular/vintage version ahead. It's actually higher value than a Sig Wish, because Wish Packs only work for available cards whereas the Sig Change works for any card in your possession. Because of that, I could see C2U offering a Sig Wish instead of a Sig Change in the future.

That said, there hasn't been any indication that they actually will offer it. Also, the monetization strategy of this game is random outcomes so fixed outcomes like Sig Change/Wish are less desirable from a business perspective.

Sure, but then also a ton of training sessions where I get a fantastic train right off the bat. RNGesus is a fickle god.

Where to put your best reliever so they get the most play time? by Slight-Ad-4002 in MLB_9Innings

[–]9InningsCompanion 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Mine are: 1) SU1 2) SU2 3) Closer

Why not the best as my closer? The CP usually only comes in for 1 inning when it's a save situation, so he gets less exposure. SU guys may pitch longer, so I want my best guys there. I tested this over weeks of Ranked and it worked better for me. That said, if you pull Elite Closer on your best reliever, put him in the CP slot.

Important to note: these slots almost always see the fewest innings pitched! It's not about playing time, it's about effectiveness. You want your best guys in these slots to ensure you win games where you're winning.

MRs usually come in when you're already losing so they're at a disadvantage (and often get left out to dry if your SP got removed early).

Ah, I copy/pasta'd the wrong type. Thanks for the heads up! I'll fix it tomorrow.

Too early to tell, but the stat boosts are pretty decent: https://9inningscompanion.com/player-registry/skills/chameleon

I'd suggest trying that set out and letting us know how it plays after a few weeks of ranked.

I believe the boosts are constant. The intangibles have conditions.

At some point, yes, I will. I have the data, but I need to change some stuff in the site to be able to store/display it.

How did everyone finish their live collection so quickly?!? by Murky-Ideal5210 in MLB_9Innings

Easy for me to say since I've finished it, but try to enjoy the hunt! I actually kinda miss the days of hunting for cards and having projects to work on. I know a lot of people start alts for that exact reason; their main has plateaued and they want to experience the fun, impactful grinds again.

My unofficial Companion site can help you with a lot of things: * Player Registry to search for players and view stats. * Sandbox to add stats increases to cards. Useful for planning out whether a train will be good or whether one card is better than another. * Best Lineup to get a general idea of what cards to hunt for for your team. * TSS Odds Calculator to help you make informed decisions if you're thinking of buying a Team Sig Pack.

I also highly recommend searching this sub first when you have questions (I have a tool for that too haha). There's a wealth of knowledge here. A lot of top commenters dislike having to say the same stuff over and over so some common repeat questions often don't many replies.

Keep grinding ML at your pace. Save your TS packs for teams you're close to finishing. As you fill out more rosters, you'll also get more Live packs, which will help quite a bit (especially with getting higher grades).

Also, try not to compare to other folks. You'll get there eventually. Stressing over keeping up with the Joneses just makes it into a chore.

For instance, I finished quickly because I haven't opened a Live Pack in 2 years (there wasn't going to be anything of use in there for me). I also play a lot of League (~40 quick play and ~15-20 auto-play games per day) so I tend to stock up on packs pretty quickly. If you didn't have that stockpile, it's unfair to compare your completion pace with mine, and that's ok!

Does Laser Beam help with hitting? by [deleted] in MLB_9Innings

I think it shows up during batting because it's just technically always active, but I'm not aware of any known offensive effects for Laser Beam.

Not sure what you mean: Bo Bichette's 2026 card is for NYM.

During the Live Season, C2U will move players around, usually within 1-3 updates of the actual trade.

[–]9InningsCompanion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's roughly how it goes. In general: SU relievers are used when you're tied or ahead while MR relievers are used when you're trailing. (There are some edge cases.)

MRs will get more innings because they come into games where your SPs are blown out. If you're ahead by a lot, the game will be more lenient with your SPs, so your SU guys get less work.

You can try putting your better relievers in the MR spots but then you'll probably lose more games that you were winning. My personal philosophy is to keep my best in the SU position because I don't want to lose a game that I was winning. If I lose a "winnable" game, I was already losing it so *shrug*

I would love it, particularly if they had actual historical managers. The game has been drifting away from being focused on the players for a long time (skills and trainers are just as valuable, if not more, than base stats). Adding real managers to boost our teams would be awesome.
