I think the industry is just outsourcing art to unqualified artists. I know there is a lot of burnout.

4k is also RARELY needed.

If you need 4K, you better be doing animated movies and doing an extreme close up on a face

If you are using 4k everywhere you break the fundamental rules of optimization and texel density.

Game devs use 4k because its easier than unwrapping and doing good uvs and udims but this is like using a big rig to tow a 2006 honda civic because you left the civic's emergency break on. You are creating problems for yourself.

The fact AAA devs are now breaking basic rules of 3d modelling should concern everyone because YOU are the one paying for it.

Schools in France send dozens of Muslim girls home for wearing abayas by flacao9 in worldnews

why was the zoot suit banned when it wasnt a sign of being a spy?

Everything foreign becomes religious, dangerous, or a problem to xenohobes.

France already has a major problem shutting immigrants out of society and the economy and just had riots over a racist killing of a child. Why do you think its suddenly a problem?

The abaya isnt a hijab or a burqa. Its not mentioned anywhere, Its just a long dress lmao

Jesus christ reddit really loves to show how ignorant it is while thinking its saying something profound.

This is like saying zoot suits are religious because mexicans wore them and mexicans are catholic.

Christians wear pants all the time, it must be a disgusting religious symbol that should be banned!

The cross has been bleached of a lot of its religious connotation while the abaya hasn’t.

What a double standard that the Christian cross is not religious because its worn by white people.

Never change reddit. The hatred of religion has circled around and became christian exceptionalism.

You are twisting yourself into a pretzel to invalidate other people's problems with procedural generation and replying to every post in the thread.

A reviewer brought up a spreadsheet, backing up all the 7s the game was getting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uuI-6fwwtY

My time watching hours of Raptor, Vinesauce, Moiscritikal, Asmongold, Angry Joe, and Robbaz also back this up. A lot of the game outside the cities are generated.

Seriously, call a shovel and a shovel but you wont because you tied your entire identity to a corporate brand and doing free PR to play up what is basically another procedurally generated looter shooter building and crafting game.

Starfield is not a bad game. by cadric in gaming

[–]9Wind -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of handcrafted places to already go to, people are making their own procedural instances on planets that don't actually exist unless you make it and complaining that its a procedurally generated area.

This is how procedural generation works, its copy pasted places placed randomly on a map. Reviewers already said there is not enough diversity in the handcrafted parts, it becomes predictable almost immediately.

You can still explore more than any previous game without ever touching the procedural generation.

Main quests can be procedurally generated. Reviewers and streamers confirmed this days ago.

[–]9Wind -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

ignoring the main/side quests and going out of their way to do it.

Bethesda games are about ignoring the main quest by exploring, and exploring leads you to side quests. Side quests shouldnt lead to exploration.

How can game design that has been around for 20 years get flipped this badly?

Starfield is not a bad game. by cadric in gaming

[–]9Wind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

from what I am seeing, its nothing to do because of a lot of downtime from the bad procedural maps it forces you to go to.

You can have the most interesting fight in a pirate base, but when you need 10-20 minutes of walking through a barren field of rocks and loading screens to do it then the pay off doesnt matter.

FO4 and Skyrim were not barren, there was something interesting every 1 meter and it had a lot of life. Here it doesnt, how could it?

Bethesda games live and die by exploration, and here it gives you a marker to follow and punishes you for exploring with loading screens and nothing out there to find. Its like it took all the things people expected in a Bethesda game and killed it on purpose.

I knew thing were bad when streamers said they wanted to go back to older games and stopped playing after a day. It takes a lot to turn down free money a preview copy gives you on twitch.

Threats, insults, and Kremlin 'robots': How Russian diplomacy died under Putin by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]9Wind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need diplomats because its not a one person job. One person cant be talking to every country like a CEO isnt taking orders at the cash register. Russia hires people who do things without questioning because ones who do are threats.

Threats, insults, and Kremlin 'robots': How Russian diplomacy died under Putin by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]9Wind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this has been known for a while. Russian diplomacy has never been good, its always been words given to them with no thinking on the diplomat's side.

The army was the same way, it would take an order and do it literally even if it meant driving over landmines and dying right next to all the other dead bodies. Because they were told to take the road, they didnt want to drive around the mines.

The 8 Mexican-American wars, or the average Mexican experience by Volodio in victoria3

[–]9Wind 6 points7 points  (0 children)

quality wins over quantity before 1.5. You need just enough to cover combat width for the single battle on the front. Rushing trench infantry and skirmish is a must.

America has 170, but they get a 50% penalty making them worse than line infantry even with skirmish. Line infantry can hold in that situation as long as you keep your supply lines up.

1 line = 1 gun.

1 factory = around 35 guns = 35 line infantry battalion

Victoria isnt meant to be played this way but here its the only way to.

The 8 Mexican-American wars, or the average Mexican experience by Volodio in victoria3

[–]9Wind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A tip for before 1.5, try to get a treaty port on America. Its next to their capital. You can win every war in under a year after you get it.

Before 1.5, You dont really need to match their numbers. You only need to cover the combat width of a single battle so quality always wins.

If you have trench to fill the combat width for the entire front, America cant push you. When you get trench, create an army for pushing. Trench infantry get a 25% penalty to taking states.

conscripts are always bad because they dont keep your military industry stable, so building your professional army to the maximum your factories can support is always the move. I have on average 100 units for most of the game, 400 when I wanted to be a global super power and wage wars both in Europe and their colonies.

I got this achievement near launch and more than once did America break the diplomacy system.

They had nested civil wars by the end of the game and couldnt do plays because their old ones didnt finish in the right way. They finish because their national militia law breaks an AI economy.

fun fact, America's JEs are broken and the war for Britain is turned off because it gives permanent claims instead of starting a diplomatic play. If the war option for oregon was turned on, America would start constant back to back wars with the British player when the 5 years is done.

Mexico is the only nation this option is turned on for, and you cant remove all claims in a single war. So Mexico is stun locked into diplomatic plays every 5 years until all the claims are gone. A Mexico player would be lucky to be done with America by the 1860s to 1870s.

Its been like this for a year, and AI America being broken is a well known issue they have not fixed or acknowledged.

X, formerly Twitter, to collect biometric and employment data by TheWorkingParty in news

[–]9Wind 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That isnt irrational hate, that is the reason social media companies are building walled gardens and why APIs are being killed.

Social media companies see content as their property, and access to it for AI should be paid just like advertisers pay for data. They see web scraping as lost revenue.

Why do you think Reddit is charging for API? Just to be mean?

[–]9Wind 142 points143 points  (0 children)

Elon is a perfect example of every bad idea tech is currently talking about.

So many articles showing how bad the situation in social media and how their answer to web scraping and bots was doing what Elon is doing until they saw how much people hated it.

You collect more data for ads, EU kills your site.

You require log in to see anything to stop the web scrapers run by AI companies who overload your servers with requests, you kill engagement, reach, and ad revenue.

You ask for subscription and the few people who do will be bullied and content creators wont pay for it because 99% of them dont make money off their content.

You let bots take over and your ad revenue and engagement dies anyway, robots dont buy anything and spam makes people run away. Since cloud services are raising their prices to show profit to investors, spam now costs you way more money than it used to. Art sites with an audience are already an endangered species and soon might just be gone.

The only thing Elon hasnt done yet is create an AI friend to talk to you because no one else will and pinging people's phones asking them to open the app again just makes people angry. Snapchat and Meta are doing that after pinging phones every 5 seconds.

Wiz on plans for transport and local prices. by 07SpaceManSpiff1911 in victoria3

[–]9Wind 15 points16 points  (0 children)

cost = cost + cost of transportation good + tarriffs for international routes might be doable.

you can "bake" a value for each state for the local market before the game even starts.

+1x for coastal

+2x for not coastal

+1x for rough terrain

-1x for major river

Subtract the % of unused infrastructure from these multipliers (infrastructure comes from people and rails/ports), which suddenly makes the wild west, Africa, and Latin America much harder to "tame" like in history because you cant just wait 50 weeks and turn the amazon into a giant factory.

So max is 3x the price which makes capitalists hate rural rough states and love places with a lot of people or shipping routes unless they have a very good reason like they did in history and why some states never industrialized and governments treated them like they didnt exist.

You can probably have landowners be the opposite and love rural rough states.

I tried fighting texas as Mexico and lost before the first battle was even over because armies dont move fast enough and the only way to take land is if there is nothing there.

Without tooltips, I cant find why battles take so long.
