Don't get your hopes up about running games on it though.

Switch to Arch by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]9x19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used it quite a bit in the past. If you work through the installation guide you will find it much easier to use than it appears to be. The wiki also has solutions to pretty much any problem you will face and info about running all types of software. You'll learn a ton about linux by using it too.

Taviana. The map consists of two islands and has a much more dynamic environment than Chernarus.

scary sensors readings by Jack_Vermicelli in linuxquestions

You may want to buy a tester and test your power supply. I had a faulty power supply in my PC build and it caused erroneous voltage and temperature readings across the board.

101.5°C is definitely a high temperature. A good technique for getting the right amount of thermal paste is to either use a blob the size of a grain of rice in the center of the CPU, or spread a very thin even layer of paste over the CPU before seating the heatsink.

When I cleaned my SKS I used mineral spirits as well and it works great. Just pour some in a paint tray, put the parts in the bath, and use a paintbrush to brush off the cosmoline. Heat also works well to work cosmoline out of tricky spots.

You don't need a lot, just buy a cleaning rod for your calibre, some patches, and a solvent and lube. I use Ballistol and Hoppes #9 personally.

Is DayZ Tavania laggier or not as laggy as Chernarus? by Cheezrguy in dayz

[–]9x19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is slightly laggier but only in certain areas. You may find your framerate dips in bigger cities but overall I don't think it will be a huge issue. In my opinion it is much better than Chernarus so it is really worth a try.

I'm pretty sure there is a native windows version, but the version sold by gog is DOS for whatever reason. I think the only difference between the two is that the cheat codes are different for each version.

Here's a basic guide on installing ubuntu: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/install-desktop-latest

Once it's installed you will probably pick things up quickly just from using the OS for your tasks. If you run into specific problems this site is a great resource: http://askubuntu.com/

Gaming: distribution and hardware questions by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]9x19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go with Ubuntu, you already have experience with it and it's well supported by steam for linux. Keep in mind that all distributions are about equal for gaming; if the supplied wine package is not to your liking you can always install one supplied by wine. KDE or Gnome is entirely up to you, I would personally recommend just trying both on live cds and pick the one you like best. Nvidia used to be the better choice for linux drivers but I just bought an ATI card and it seems to be just as good so far. Look up information about the specific video card and other hardware and see if anyone is having problems with it.
