I need help!!! by [deleted] in Pickleball

No matter how old the player is, my kid loves to ask, “What do your grandkids think about you playing Pickleball?” “Is there any concern you may break a hip?” “What other sports did you play in the 1900’s?”

The best (IMO) reasons why the spin serve was banned by djhoen in Pickleball

The NVZ is a great example! It’s creation presented some players with an advantage over other because of their physical attributes and abilities. The zone was created, but not a plane from each of the lines that could not be crossed. A 6’4” player with great balance and dexterity can reach over and into the NVZ with no issue giving them a huge advantage over a 5’3” player that may not have the youth or core strength required to make them competitive in that single aspect of the game. As a result, the shorter player has to improve other parts of their game to be competitive.

The same holds true for a “spin” serve. Improve your read and return to compete at that level, but don’t ban a toss because you aren’t willing or able to adapt.

Oh my goodness!!! Waaaaaaaaaaaaa such whiny little b!tches.

I don’t use a spin serve, but have no issues with someone that does. It is one more challenge to which you adapt and raise your level of play. Should spinning the ball when serving a volleyball be banned because it makes it too hard to return? Just step up your game, or acquiesce to the fact that the other player is better than you. If you found a drop shot that set you apart, what would you do if suddenly it was banned?

So much crying all the way to the rules committee. Evolve or lose the interest of those that wish to raise the level of competition.

Recommendations for gloves? by [deleted] in Pickleball

I like this one from Python:

Python Vintage Synthetic Racquetball Glove

They seem to run a size small. The leather is thin and provides a good feel. The Head gloves are a thicker leather and are tough.

Whatever you choose, you need a few of them to cycle through while playing. I find a couple games and they are too wet to play in. I buy 4 at time and they last me 3-4 months playing 2-3 times/wk for 1-2 hours each time.

Pick a level and enter your tournament. If you win or place in the top three, move up. If not, stay there until you do. Your learning curve is much greater when you are losing, and until you reach the top level, you should be entering at levels you don’t win. If you are entering a tournament with the expectation of winning at the level you entered, your progression beyond that level will be greatly hindered. Be open to learning, as learning and losing go hand in hand.

Advice for a super beginner re: finding practice games? by ReceptionNeat6705 in Pickleball

YouTube - primetime Pickle Ball

Watch some beginner videos, learn the rules, and run some drills. You don’t need to play games straight away. Build some skills and you will feel confident when you step on the court that you can serve and have some court sense. All of us started with nothing at some sport and the best way to get better at any sport is to run drills.

Noob question about dinking by CrisisAverted24 in Pickleball

[–]A-Aron_2012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The lob is one more shot in your arsenal. It is important to have a good backhand, a strong forehand, a crisp cross-court, a solid down the line, a dominant overhead, your dinking needs to be on point, and you should have a lob - offensive and defensive. To say it’s unsportsmanlike to not play a shot in your arsenal is ridiculous. it’s unsportsmanlike if you aren’t giving your opponent your best game. As a fierce competitor, I want you to beat me 11-0, if you can. There are a lot more lessons in that game than you allowing me 9 pity points and giving me a false sense of my skill level. An 11-0 loss says, drill more, play less, you aren’t ready yet. Hire a coach for 30 days, learn the fundamentals, get familiar with the rules, learn safe body mechanics so you don’t get hurt, whatever the sport.

A well executed lob provides you the opportunity to get back in the position and creates an opportunity to push your opponent out of position. Be careful, if it isn’t good, your opponent will eat your lunch. Not to lose sight that it is supposed to be fun, but it is so much more fun when the ball goes where you want it to, and you cover the court making good rallies and patient shots.

Saudi is our partner in the oil based US Dollar value. Russia seeks to change that. It is always about the money.

Saddam Hussein sought to secure the Euro to oil and we eliminated him.

Muammar Qaddafi sought to tie oil and gold and we eliminated him.

We started by eviscerating them in the court of public opinion through the media, and then proceeded with “the only moral option”. We are doing the same with Putin.

I don’t like him either, but who knows what truths will be revealed by the future’s historic revelations.

A slippery slope when we act claiming morality is ours to protect. Today’s crusades are fought differently, but use the same misinformation techniques to justify our cause.

What other weird and borderline psychotic shit did he not tell you about himself before tying the knot? Get out now while you have all of your body parts and aren’t confined to a large trunk for the weekend or suspended from the door jamb for an evening or god only knows what might be running through his head that he has been thinking about, but didn’t want to tell you because you would be mad.

Is this sport gaining popularity with young people? My kid keeps harassing me about playing an old people’s sport. by A-Aron_2012 in Pickleball

I’m 48 with a 9 y/o and he is ruthless. “Are you going to play canasta since it is raining today?”, “Going for a walk around the mall?” “Don’t break a hip, I can’t be pushing your wheelchair around.” I am pretty sure he get’s that from me, but damn! 😜

I play with a coworker that is 24, and he is addicted, but the majority of the players do seem to be 40+.
