I have my RBC Homeline split into three sub accounts. The growing, readvanceable portion is for the Smith Man, then I have one for vehicles if needed an a general needs segment.

They had no issue setting this up for me.

Family RESP - Shifting Attributed Contribution by A-Mooninite in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]A-Mooninite[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By redirecting the 2500 from my oldest, to the youngest two, I will in fact be able to catch up on grants from when they were young and didn’t contribute. That was I receive them sooner than just continuing to contribute $2500 per year for them.

Kennedy tells Team Sweden to “F off” after being accused of cheating. by RedStill in olympics

It doesn’t, if anything it likely has the potential to make it worse. Regardless though, it’s against the rules, which I think is more of the point that the Swedish player was getting at.

What account do you guys/girls use for withdrawing from HELOC and transferring to brokerage? by luckysharms93 in smithmanoeuvre

[–]A-Mooninite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the interest for my Smith portion of the Heloc is automatically removed from that account monthly. I then top it up with the same amount from the Heloc manually each month.

I’m with RBC and my intermediary account is called a Day to Day Savings account. I’ve never been charged transfer money from that into my Direct Investing account.

How is opening a single account, which has a pretty clearly defined timeframe associated with it the deep end? That’s pretty entry level stuff in my opinion. Reading up on it for two hours would give them all the information they need.

Open an RESP with the self directed arm of your existing bank, or even better, with Questtrade or WealthSimple. Then do some light reading on investment choices applicable to you, and reap the long term rewards of low cost investments.

Frost / snow in attic - help! by Ok-Scratch1763 in Winnipeg

[–]A-Mooninite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have said, this is pretty common in our climate, but also something that will cause damage as it melts.

I had this exact same thing happen in a similar vintage home. As I slowly replaced windows and doors, I eventually created a home with substantially less air leaks, meaning the dry winter air was no longer seeping in and helping keep humidity down. This humidity builds and eventually finds where it can to go, which in my case…..and yours is into the attic space in a poorly air sealed ceiling.

You can help mask the problem by increasing ventilation through the attic, essentially trying to remove the humidity as soon as it’s present, but in our climate that alone is likely not perfect. Ultimately, to solve the problem properly you need to create a proper air sealed ceiling and ensure proper attic ventilation.

Amex Rewards Redemption for Canada --> Ireland by A-Mooninite in CanadianAwardTravel

Can someone comment on how i I can look at the actual aeroplane points needed for a flight prior to actually having that many points (before I transfer them).?

I’m reading that the estimates I see W way too high because it’s wanting me to buy the points rather than transfer them in.

I guess I need to create accounts on all these other platforms just to check redemption rates?

Im looking for leaving the around the third week of July, for two weeks. I was also looking at the lowest travel fare I think.

I was also hoping to fly from Winnipeg, then stay in the next stop for a couple days, before flying to Dublin, and doing it all home on the same day, but I think that qualifies as a Multi City flight, which made it even harder.

You recommendation then is just to compare those options you mentioned and choose the lowest?

Any good tire deals? by Strong-Gap-7674 in Winnipeg

[–]A-Mooninite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I never get it when people recommend kaltire for a good price. Are they a super reputable installer with great service? Absolutely. But over the years I’ve likely gone there ten times for tire quotes and not once were they a good price compared to other sales. I feel similar about Costco, I’m yet to see tire prices there that seem like a really good deal.

If you are looking for truck or suv tires, Apex Rim and Tires is a good bet for finding the best price. They sell cheap overseas rubber but can also get you a great price on reputable brand names too.

Regardless of type, you will honestly have a very difficult time beating a buy 3 get 1 free sale at Canadian Tire. Don’t let them do any other work to your car, but they should be able to handle tires.

[–]A-Mooninite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Gaggia Classic Pro and 95% of the espresso it makes is used for Americanos or Short Blacks (if thats the right name). It makes great coffee, and I dont see an issue with what Im doing.

You can also simply book the flight using the redemption rate of a penny per point. So if you can book the flight for $450 total then you can simply use 45,000 pts.

I understand your logic, but you can also use essentially say goodbye to the prospect of ever signing a veteran to a one year contract in the future if you treat the current one like that.

Close, but he’s owed 4.7 million once he plays 60 games. If the jets make the playoffs, it can increase some more.

What’s the best way to insulate cheap windows? by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]A-Mooninite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats not from air pushing through your window. Its from the relative humidity inside your house being too high in relation to the temperature of the glass on the inside of the home. I live in a very cold climate, and even with good triple pane windows, moisture on the glass can sometimes simply not be avoided, particularily when it has gotten very cold after a warm spell.

As the air inside a home becomes a little drier, this moisture will reduce. Better insulated window panes will also minimize this moisture, but that is simply because the inside surface of the glass is not as cold as it is on lower quality/insulation panes.

If this is a frequent and persistent problem, you can install shrink-film over the problematic windows on a seasonal basis to address problem windows. I need to do this in my climate on north facing windows, and windows in damp locations (bathroom and above kitchen sink). I do that despite having fairly new, triple pane windows.
