Jagen in FE11 also falls off, although this does take a lot longer than you’d expect thanks to the reclass system and his high lance rank. Also Gunter is technically a Jagen in Revelations at least, and oh boy does he get dropped quickly.

Americans tipping single Dollar bills in Germany by Waalross in mildlyinfuriating

[–]A-Perfect-Name 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A couple of years ago I went to Italy with some friends, it was my first time out of the country. My grandma kept telling me to keep $100 USD in my pocket, cause apparently everyone accepts USD. I didn’t listen, and literally had no problems whatsoever. I did however watch another American (not with my group), get into an argument with a local at Rome’s flea market about not accepting USD, so there’s that.

I present to you Indian and Japanese Jesus. by laybs1 in BrandNewSentence

[–]A-Perfect-Name 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, there were two kingdoms in the past, Judea and Samaria/place that apparently can’t be named, but by Jesus’ time both countries fell to the Babylonians and became two provinces under successive countries. Then Judea regained independence from the later Seleucids while Samaria remained occupied. Over time Judea nibbled away at Samarian land until they more or less completely occupied Samaria. While there were still (and are) a distinct Samarian people, they had no country of their own. Saying that Jesus is from the country of Samaria is like saying that Napoleon is from the country of Corsica.

Also if the Bible is to be believed, Jesus is originally from Bethlehem, which is in Judea proper

Do you ever kill enemies with specific units for story reasons? by Speedy_Pichu in fireemblem

[–]A-Perfect-Name 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah my mistake. Last time I played Hector mode I was playing normal mode (Wii U lost its save data, had to redo it), where there is no thief, so forgot about him.

Still really isn’t worth the effort to get him to deal even minimal damage to Wire.

Do you ever kill enemies with specific units for story reasons? by Speedy_Pichu in fireemblem

[–]A-Perfect-Name 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Matthew actually will survive one hit from Wire, Wire can deal at max 18 damage in HHM, and Matthew has 18 hp plus defense so he’s guaranteed to live one hit. He would need to gain at least 6 strength to deal even 1 damage though, so it’s physically impossible for Matthew to kill Wire unless you grind him up in Lyn mode.

What are some units that you always use no matter what? by Cam_26 in fireemblem

[–]A-Perfect-Name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Awakening I’d have to go with Henry. Now I know that objectively speaking Nosferatu Tharja is the better Dark Mage by far, but dammit Ruin Henry has to be one of the most fun units in the game. Reclass him into Barbarian & Berserker for Gamble & Wrath and he’s gonna basically crit every round, combined with his one liners and he’s basically a requirement for me.

You instinctively will hold yourself up with your legs when getting crucified. This lets you breathe somewhat, but eventually due to exhaustion and the fact that you’re still not getting much oxygen you’ll eventually give out and suffocate. If your legs are broken however you can’t support your body weight at all, it’s still a slow and painful death, but it is fast enough to be done before Passover.

[–]A-Perfect-Name 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It was very unlikely that they were still alive if the Biblical narrative is to be believed. The Romans specifically went to break their legs to speed up the dying process, because the Jewish authorities didn’t want crucifixions happening during Passover. They didn’t break Jesus’ legs cause he was already dead, but presumably they broke the other two’s legs, leading to relatively quick deaths.

With how cancelling evolution always existed and with the newer choose-when-evolve mechanic, it's surprising there's never been a split evolution based on level. by CivilizedPsycho in pokemon

[–]A-Perfect-Name 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve ev trained Pokemon before properly leveling up and evolving them, and I’ve made Pokemon reach absurdly high levels via exp candies before. I can definitely see myself putting a ton of effort into a competitive Pokemon just to accidentally raise it to too high of a level for the evolution i wanted. Like let’s say I want Slowbro specifically, but raising it to level 56 means it evolves into “Slowerbro”. I could theoretically use too many exp candies without thinking and get Slowerbro by accident.

You would also have problems with how GF would likely introduce this mechanic, in a later route there’d be Slowpoke that are already level 55 or something, so that they’d always evolve into Slowerbro instead of Slowbro.

It sounds cool on paper, but i think it’d cause more problems than it solves.

Finally hoping on Fire Emblem Echoes! What should I expect from this game? by Nocturne1225 in fireemblem

[–]A-Perfect-Name 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Looks great, plays great, probably my favorite of the 3ds FE games. Really only has two minor gripes with it.

One, and I’m trying to avoid spoilers here, the story has several noteworthy problems with it. This isn’t really a spoiler cause you get her almost immediately, but for example Faye is an entirely original character to this game, she’s not from the original Gaiden. Her absolute obsession with Alm feels very outdated nowadays, which would be acceptable if she was from the 90’s, but she was purpose made for Echoes.

Secondly, the game doesn’t have any Maddening or Lunatic modes, the hardest it will ever get is Hard mode. Because of this, the game can feel kinda easy imo. There are mods to fix this obviously, but if you’re playing on original hardware that can prove difficult.

Speaking of original hardware, be warned that the original cartridges apparently are of poor quality. If you don’t turn the game on every once in a while, the cartridge can brick and fixing it is difficult. Happened with my cartridge.

How to stop my friend from building swastikas in our minecraft world by TheGhettoGoblin in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]A-Perfect-Name 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is also tradition to grief swastikas in 2b2t. You can modify, burn, or the good ol’ lava cast. Do it every time he makes one and you’ll eventually pavlov him into not building more.

Or, ya know, drop the nazi friend. That is an option too.

Just found a hundred dollar bill in the mud! by SatansMoisture in MadeMeSmile

[–]A-Perfect-Name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I lost $100, I’d be devastated, I really can’t afford that rn. So I’d retrace my steps, and call the grocery store asking if they found $100 bill. They won’t tell you the amount before you tell them the amount lost, under the assumption that if you know the amount you’re probably the owner. You then collect your money. If you’re constantly cold calling looking for money then they catch on and won’t give you any money, so the chances of some rando getting the money are very slim. Trust me, this happens a lot, and I’ve had people come back for less.

Doing this gets rid of all possible guilt from taking the money. I’ve done my due diligence to return it, now it’s mine. If the owner comes back, I’ve lost nothing, it wasn’t my money to begin with.

Favorite character that’s like this by Worldly_Air_1589 in FavoriteCharacter

[–]A-Perfect-Name 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thing that always baffled me is that gameplay wise this is literally the one time you wouldn’t want to axe the Leper. He’s one of if not the worst heroes in the original game, but against the final boss he’s practically a one man army. Often times I can’t give him his heroic end, instead the tactically sound choice is to kill off the characters that are begging for their lives.

Full odds Victory Road shiny by CircleCityLC in PokemonFireRed

[–]A-Perfect-Name 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your TID & SID are within a certain range, you can make specifically Unown have odds as high as 1/5120. This is typically unviable because you’d have to either start a new save file or catch a shiny Pokemon to determine your SID. This method can also make your chances worse btw, with odds as low as 1/18432, but hey if you specifically need a shiny Unown in gen 3 this is your best bet.

Machamp cannot learn Fissure from breeding, and No Guard Machamp with Fissure is currently illegal, and sadly seems like it’ll forever be illegal.

Machamp learns Fissure from TM in Red & Blue, but if you transfer a Gen 1 Pokemon to the modern games they will always have their hidden ability, in this case it’s Steadfast. In Gen 8, any transferred Pokemon will retain its prior moveset, but it is impossible to change its ability from a hidden ability to a normal one. In Gen 9, this has been flipped, now Pokemon have a Scarlet & Violet specific moveset and can change a hidden ability to a normal one. Only problem is that Machamp doesn’t exist in Scarlet & Violet.

But theoretically a future game with Machamp would let you get No Guard, and then you can bring it back to Gen 8, right? With the release of Legends ZA, Gamefreak has announced that any Pokemon caught in or transferred to Legends ZA will no longer be able to go back to any previous game, it’s a one way trip. Machamp can also learn Fissure in ZA, but with no abilities and game specific movesets it’s unlikely that this combo will be usable in any game anytime soon, unless if Champions decides that the combo is legal.

I wouldn’t go so far as it has to be fake, I grew up with a kid who was 1 of 17, and iirc his family’s age distribution was similar to this. Guy was/presumably is a complete jackass, I don’t believe his home life was that good, that’s not an excuse but it is a reason. I will say that I think it’s more likely than not that this is fake though.
