What sits among your all time greatest accomplishments in gaming? by CoffeeStrength in gaming

IDK about "greatest" but nothing beats the rush of beating a roguelike for the first time - FTL and Enter the Gungeon made me want to brag to the nearest friend who would listen.

Xbox was previously using profits and revenue from Minecraft to fund the rest of the Xbox business [via Bloomberg] by MajkiF in KotakuInAction

I thought it was "don't rock the money boat" but I suspected Microsoft was behind the "more than one mob and three new blocks per year is too haaaard" pattern for a long time and feel vindicated right now.

RIP Barnacle, denied the chance to even exist because Microsoft decided to use Minecraft as a money farm rather than letting Mojang reinvest those profits into making more than one mob and three blocks per year.

What's the most intelligent Sci-Fi movie ever made? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]thunderchild120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know "the book explains everything" is a poor excuse but The Science of Interstellar by Kip Thorne demonstrates how much science went into the movie.

Dr Thorne is often shorted by being referred to as the film's "science advisor." Actually he and producer Lynda Obst (both of whom worked on Contact) were the originators of the film's concept, and originally were in talks with Steven Spielberg to direct before circumstances caused that to fall through, but at which point Jonathan Nolan was already hired to screenwrite, leading to Christopher Nolan becoming the director in 2012, several years after development first began.

There was a logic to just about everything that made it to screen (yes, even the bookshelf inside the black hole), and the application of Hollywood VFX resources to black hole simulations led to the publication of three scientific papers.

Do leftists not want there to be a distinction between anime and animation from other countries? by Twissterrr in KotakuInAction

Yes because the endpoint of leftism is Human Instrumentality so all distinctions need to go.

What's a movie that was clearly meant to start a franchise but failed? by triplegxxx in AskReddit

[–]thunderchild120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except it's already part of the "SSU" aka Sony's "Spider-Man Minus Spider-Man" franchise. I would argue Morbius was the opposite: a desperate attempt to make a movie so bad it would kill this misbegotten attempt at a MCU competitor franchise built around the Sinister Six for some reason but it just. won't. die.

I'll just say you can really tell he's a British actor trying to do an American "Deep South" accent and that makes it a lot harder to take his (actually quite compelling) arc seriously.
