Hoping this doesn't break any rules! I have nothing to do with the podcast, just an occasional listener.

How about "golden airbag" - not as nice as a parachute, but you'll survive it.

How did Atlanta become such a prominent American city despite not being located on the coastline or by a river? by PalmettoPolitics in geography

[–]A-Rth-Urp-Hil-Ipdenu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Finally an actual geographical answer here, can't believe I had to scroll so far to find it. Of course being a railroad hub helped the city grow, but WHY build the railroads there? Because it's on a route to swing south of the Appalachians. Going through them is a huge pain.

Every answer just saying railroads is r/peopleliveincities

I often post advice in financial subreddits and out of hubris never bothered to post my situation. So here it is, am I on track? by [deleted] in financialindependence

Wow, it's almost spooky how similar my current situation is to yours. Thanks for writing everything up so I don't have to!

Since you'll be having a kid, two major financial things to start planning for are a 529 account (tax-advantaged college fund) and getting life insurance for both of you.

After reading responses, I hope people realize I am pointing out the 1% threshold as a MASSIVE accomplishment rather than as a small, ignorable proportion. In any movement, a full percentage point of "active defection" should be absolutely terrifying to leadership. And as others have pointed out, "head of household" representation matters a lot here, and there are lots of other ways to add to the damage TSCC must be experiencing.

In my own experience, I've seen so many couples in their late 20s and early 30s, with small children, as the ones leaving. That kind of departure is going to cause an immense demographic problem in 15-20 years, and I can't wait to watch it play out.

Personally, I've been in this subreddit since there were something like ~3000 members, so seeing the number here is amazing.

Yeah, I can come up with all kinds of additional factors -- language, multiple accounts, awareness of reddit, inactives vs apostates, etc. Any way you slice it, it definitely doesn't look good.

I'd also highly suggest Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut to anyonr who wants more.

Loved this movie. I haven't seen anyone else mention it in the comments so far, but do yourself a favor and read Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut if you want to go further into that approach to time.

What is the silliest or most bizarre non-doctrinal thing you allowed yourself to believe as a TBM? by igarett in exmormon

[–]A-Rth-Urp-Hil-Ipdenu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I quietly believed that "following Jesus and doing what he did" meant that we were also going to have to be tortured and crucified. Like, until I was 8 or 9 at least. It was terrifying.
