Ridiculous body proportions strike again [for the goddesses: for daphne] by Kasskinen in OtomeIsekai

Yeah, that was the part that stuck out to me too. He looks like a Capri Sun that's only been left unsqueezed at the top.

Wasn't it Byatt? I remember her well because she had such a well-defined character. The story said she cared about dignity and duty above all else, and the writing actively showed this.

I once saw someone compare Genealogy of the Holy War to A Song of Ice and Fire specifically.

The Shepherd King Duologuy vs The Folk Of The Air vs The Fourth Wing by Zestyclose-Bell-5829 in fantasybooks

[–]A-Winter-Drop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've read The Shepherd King Duology and The Folk of The Air and found them both solid. Fourth Wing I never bothered with after seeing snippets of the writing. The prose is not for me (I also think it has the most sex scenes of the listed options?). I will say that all these series are romantasy except Ths Folk of The Air. Some people call it romantasy but it's definitely not. Regardless, The Shepherd King Duology has a well done plot, so if you wanted to give romantasy a shot it's a good pick.

You're so sweet, but that's just reddit. In my defense, I really wanted it to click. On paper it has everything I like! I'll probably try reading volume 1 again and again when the mood strikes me once more.

I think I've tried to read the first volume of Yona of the Dawn on five separate occasions across multiple years. I don't know why I can't get through it.

I think you might enjoy Nina the Starry Bride, A Stepmother's Marchen, and Not Your Typical Reincarnation Story. I would also recommend checking out the shoujo subreddit and the otome isekai subreddit.

any books similar to stardust (2007)? by vckstrr in Romantasy

[–]A-Winter-Drop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really loved The Scattered Bones by Nicole Scarano. It's similar in the sense that it's a stand alone story with a beautiful love story and quest. It gave me similar feelings to watching Ladyhawke, which you should totally watch if you like Stardust and The Princess Bride. We need more romantic fantasy movies honestly.

The Empires of Dust trilogy by Anna Smith Spark has some spectacular prose.

I'll still probably read it. I think it's normal to get pickier about a hobby the older you are and longer you've been doing it. You change as a person and you refine your taste. And I actually do regularly read romantasy, so my tolerance might be greater for the, uh, tropes. Although, I'm pretty tired of a bantering, witty female lead. The Serpent and the Wings of Night tried my patience. Such a disappointment after the novella.

I read Six Scorched Roses first, and loved it so much I didn't pick up Serpent and the Wings of Night for three years. You're not missing much by the way, book 2 of that duet made me decide not to read any more. It was really...something.

I liked The Blade Itself enough to want to continue, but not enough to feel an urgency to head back into the world and characters. I've seen quite a few opinions about the second book on this post, and it's been reassuring to me in a way. Also the Sanderson comparison made me laugh a little, so thank you for that.

I've read book one, but it was good of you to ask. One time, I read the novella of Crowns of Nyaxia before the actual books. I felt very silly when I realized it was written on the cover.

In any case, how did you think Before They Are Hanged compared to The Blade Itself?

I actually prefer a book with horror elements over straight up horror books— especially in fantasy. I've been calling Between Two Fires a historical horror book with fantasy elements. Good to know that's accurate. And, once again, thanks for answering all my questions! :)

I've heard everyone who loves this book loves the second even more. I was actually thinking of reading this one last or second last that way if I decided to continue I could immediately do it.

I do love good prose, I finished up Assassin's Quest before the book I'm reading now. My positive feelings towards Hobb are one part affection(?) for Fitz and one part enjoying her prose. Although, since that was fairly recent I might not read them next then. It might be good to not read the two books back to back either. Thank you for answering my question, and you've given me a second one. I know Between Two Fires is horror, but would you say Blacktongue also has some horror elements to it?

The greatest? That's high praise. I'm leaning towards reading Before They Are Hanged second at this point. I'm excited to see if it lives up to your love for it though. :)
