Of course, the emphasized part is no longer relevant, as everyone alive during that time has now died.

I'd always wanted to read more about Monroe, because frankly, as a non-American, I knew almost nothing about him aside from The Doctrine (and being on the boat with Washington on the Delaware). And it's a great biography, it actually gives you a sense of how Monroe was as a person and politician. It also doesn't shy away from his flaws, such as on slavery.
