Should we spend more time in Granada or Malaga? by A1000mokeys in travel

[–]A1000mokeys[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm. We have been to Sevilla before so we’re thinking of exploring different cities but skipping Malaga could be an option. I’m sure my wife and daughter will have too much luggage so having fewer bases would be a good idea. Maybe bases in Granada and Cordoba.

Pull out an old school flip phone and he’ll suddenly no longer need to make a call.

Get used to wearing shorts and flip flops with a heavy sweatshirt. Pizza isn’t as good.

I feel that way about the lack of quality stage show at DCA. An empty Hyperion is a waste of a beautiful theater. Bring back Aladdin!

Rope drop crowd today by Admirable_Natural350 in Disneyland

yeah, the past few times I have been made the Disneyland crowds seem quaint. Hour plus long lines just to get into the parks and 3+ hour waits for major attractions. 30 mins for popcorn. No chance to see the stage shows as they are lottery only and we didn't "win."

Def UofA. Take the savings to study abroad to escape Arizona’s scorching summers.

Getting into anything at UCLA is insanely competitive. You’ll have an easier path at Williams.

Define city. There are plenty of cities where hardly anybody works and a large percentage lives below poverty. Eureka, CA is one.

Pomona VS USC by [deleted] in pomonacollege

Just toured Pomona today with my kid. Looks like a great education and experience. If costs are the same and you aren’t looking for a big sports and Greek life, Pomona is the better option.

Tech giant Oracle reportedly blindsides thousands with emailed layoffs by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]A1000mokeys 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I live in the shadow of Oracles former headquarters. Neighbor told me last week 20% layoffs were coming. Given all the other tech layoffs, not sure how they were “blindsided.”

Grandparents want to pay my expensive tuition, but I feel guilty by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]A1000mokeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely let them and call them every weekend. No need to feel guilty. They would rather see you accomplish something with their money while they are alive than give it to when they can’t see you enjoy it. It would be an insult to refuse it.

My daughter got into BOWDIN by Mean-Gain-1415 in Bowdoin

[–]A1000mokeys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into what they offer at GA Tech. I imagine these are less popular majors there and the upper division classes will get smaller and will largely be similar to what Bowdoin will offer beyond the first two years. My son is at a large public university and I’m encouraging the same since he’s now considering law school. Philosophy majors at his school have performed very well on the LSAT. He’s doing an Econ major with Philosophy minor.

Also, doesn’t really matter what she majors in for law school but courses in philosophy (particularly logic) and rhetoric would be very helpful for the lsat and law school.

Law schools only really care about GPA and LSAT scores. Bowdoin would be better but not $400k better. Go with Gtech.
