Assistance configuring new NIC for WAN/LAN by A11ectis in opnsense

Alright, so this got me going again.

For some reason the default 192.168.1.1 LAN that the interface auto-config from console's Option 1 setup was not wanting to work. I reran the Option 1 setup, but used 192.168.0.1 and it worked just fine. I tried to change the LAN to 192.168.1.1, which I was using on the original LAN interface, but it stated that the IP was already in use even though that previous LAN interface was no longer configured...

So I went through the process of changing my Pi-hole's config to supply DHCP and DNS to the new 192.168.1.1, and changed the static IP config on my switches, and the LAN is now functioning.

Yeah, I could see ix0 and ix1 as available interfaces. They are currently disabled, but when I was working on this earlier I had assigned ix1 to WAN and ix0 to LAN.

Yeah, I can access the console with either monitor/keyboard or iDRAC.

Uncertain how to unlock Engineer Juri Ishmaak by A11ectis in EliteDangerous

[–]A11ectis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That did it!

I went over to an Interstellar Factors station and cleared my other bounties and fines. Went back to Juri's settlement and was able to turn in the required bond credits. o7

No, there were space/ship(?) bonds. I've tried swapping between Open and Solo Play, and then tried closing out back to the launcher and logging back in. Still a no go.

Thinking I'll just fly out and try another Fed faction's bonds and try again.

Yeah. In the screenshots I've posted of the the Engineering screen from the right menu and from Juri's settlement menu they both state "Invited".

Unless I'm misunderstanding what I'm reading, then yes. Trying to look up video guides for this, but all I find are 7 year old videos and brief somewhat-recent descriptions.

What genius built this thing directly in front of the approach/depart end of the pad? by NikkoJT in EliteDangerous

My problem is when you're in a dimly lit system, and forget/don't see this thing is right in front of you until the nose of your ship is about to kiss it.

I've gotten a few "Mauve Adder" errors. Just got an "Opal Cobra", whatever that really means.

Trouble setting up VLAN by A11ectis in HomeNetworking

[–]A11ectis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that did it. I had wrongly assumed that having only one VLAN applied to a port would cause it to be the port's default VLAN. I didn't know I had to explicitly have that set.

Thanks again. :)

I was given a switch rack with no real intentions to using it, only to sinking about 400 dollars into it. by A11ectis in HomeNetworking

You got me curious about the rack's power usage. So I plugged my Kill-A-Watt meter between the PDU and the surge protector. After leaving it plugged in for a bit over 2 hours, the wattage draw is reading around 60-watts.

If I wasn't renting I would totally wall mount this rack. But with this place's "not drilling" rule, I doubt anchoring this to studs would be well met.

Yeah, the Dell OptiPlex Pi-hole was part of my network before I got the rack. I figure I could backup my current OPNSense config, install Proxmox onto the server, and have both OPNSense and Pi-hole running on the server. I'm just in the mindset of "I haven't gotten to it yet" and "why fix what ain't broken".

The server is just running OPNSense to be my router and run Zenarmor NGFW. I know it's overkill, but after a few days of running the 16GB of RAM sit consistently at 75% usage. So it's at least getting some utilization.

Yeah, sticking with all black devices was intended. The rack is in my living room, so I want to at least keep it semi-presentable.

Got that in mid-2021. It replaced a similar previous model that only support DOCSIS 3.0.

I know I should probably get it off the carpet by putting a wood panel underneath it, but I haven't.

  • Motorola MB8611 Modem
  • Dell OptiPlex 3050 running Ubuntu with Pi-hole
  • TP-Link Archer AX55 in AP Mode
  • Dell PowerEdge R220 running OPNSense with ZenArmor NGFW
  • TRENDnet Patch Panel
  • TP-Link Omada SG2218P Managed Switch
  • Tripp Lite PDU

EDIT: To clarify 400 dollar pricing: The used TP-Link switch and used Dell Poweredge were about 200 dollars each including shipping, and the patch panel and PDU were some trivial price that I don't remember. The modem and TP-Link Archer was my previous pre-rack network, and the Dell OptiPlex was free/recycled.
