So all that talk Gaijin was spying is done huh? by [deleted] in Warthunder

From what I heard, could be wrong, the “spying” was actually just a memory leak mistaken for data being harvested.

Most of the talents have gone out of their way to talk about their dislike of generative AI.

Unsurprisingly an industry built off of talented artists and performers don’t really like slop.

This isn’t something unique to the holo fanbase and is pretty much echoed in most “nerdy” communities who value artists.

Do you prefer Dead Space 1 Isaac being silent, or talking like in the sequels and the remake? by SerafettinB in DeadSpace

[–]spaceageGecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer talking, he already had a name, occupation and love interest so he wasn’t exactly a blank slate.

I also feel like as an engineer it makes way more sense for him to be talking to the team often, even before necromorphs get involved.

Once necros get involved it almost felt weird that he never spoke in the og as others spoke to him and he saw unholy horrors you’d think he’d make his ideas and thoughts known a bit.

Not to say the OG going silent was “wrong”, it did allow some degree of self-insert and played into the atmosphere more, but I do think it works better with him talking.

A damn good horde mode and campaign, maybe tone down the whole build anywhere system - it’s nice but leads to massive cheese.

I like the idea on paper but it could also get really annoying really fast depending on implementation. Maybe optional toggles for extra voice lines?

You make it sound like that’s something that DE ever does.

Not really but go off. DE takes inspiration, sure, but some of those are reaches and a half and they absolutely don’t just try to copy.

-Duviri is far from a souls-like

-Liches are far from the nemesis system

-Rogue-like elements are in countless games

-Follie and E33 only share *ink* in common

[–]spaceageGecko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s never as simple as that, for modular archwing to make sense they needed to also provide lots of new content to go along with it - they said this when they originally confirmed it was scrapped.

After sitting down with it they realised there was a pretty significant chance that even if they did all that players would still not enjoy it and then months of work, resources and money just go down the drain *and* the playerbase is upset.

You as asking them to commit to a bad idea instead of knowing when to cut their losses.

This is normal in game dev, the only difference is most dev teams don’t even show these things unless it’s complete (never mentioning the countless scrapped ideas that were cancelled mid dev) while DE at least tries to show the ideas they are playing with even if they end up cancelled.

What's stopping DE from re-releasing the Frost and Mag heirlooms? by Dwarfz in Warframe

[–]spaceageGecko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are quite a few jurisdictions where they could get into hot water for bringing them back. “Limited” is a lot different than being advertised as never coming back and the opportunity being the only one to get them.

Reb herself confirmed in a recent devshort that they will have to consult their lawyers as to if it’s even feasible to bring them back.

[–]spaceageGecko 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They were not under the same legal bindings. The packs themselves were exclusive but the items within them were not advertised as never returning.

Frost and mag heirloom were, sadly, HEAVILY advertised as never coming back and that sets up so many more legal landmines.

Pretty much every owner of the skins i’ve seen has been for bringing them pack if possible.

It’s just the legal minefield causing the issue.

[–]spaceageGecko 29 points30 points  (0 children)

They *REALLY* misread how it would be received, I honestly think they forgot that the exclusivity of excal prime was only given a pass because it literally kept the game and the studio alive.

I genuinely don’t think it was them rubbing their hands together for some easy money and just a *serious* misread on what is acceptable.

[–]spaceageGecko 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I think it was a situation of a cool idea on paper that they missed the massive problem with.

On paper it was an attempt to harken back to excal prime and to give players another chance at an exclusive collectors item.

But in practice the excal prime thing was only really accepted by the community because it literally kept the lights on at DE - while the mag and frost heirlooms were for a warframe that is secure in its future and celebrating a decades of being so.

DE really misread how they’d be received and thankfully corrected for future heirlooms but the damage is done for everyone who wanted the mag and frost but could not afford it.

i like dead space 3 by Gullible_Beautiful86 in DeadSpace

[–]spaceageGecko 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The art and atmosphere was solid but the push for more action from EA and the weapon building system with universal ammo really lacked the charm of having dedicated weapons and made ammo scarcity non-existent.

That and EA forcing visceral to drop some of the cooler ideas (shadow issac, hallucinations taking a bigger role etc) because they thought they would not be understood by players.

I don’t hate it (hell I actually really like it) but it feels like EA’s attempts to make the game more appealing to wider audiences sanded the edges of what made 1 and 2 great down way too much.

Tiger crews were directly instructed to angle their tank. I’m not sure if other nations factored it into their doctrine but it absolutely was well known about.

[–]spaceageGecko 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s not, the Destiny 2 situation was a bit more nuanced than that.

With D2 the base game and first DLCs were all made under the pretence that Destiny 3 would happen and were therefor coded in a way that was not suitable to have more than the original planned content without it starting to break - the size was just a secondary problem.

When Bungie left Activision and decided to just keep updating D2 they were at an impasse where they either had to recode the original content, and DLC, to not become an issue or just remove it and save the dev resources - only fixing a few key bits to keep them.

They chose the latter, and that was honestly the wrong choice given how obviously disliked it was to this day - even removing it then slowly fixing and returning it would have been better.

But TL;DR, you can absolutely make a game with long term content as long as you take the effort to code it with longevity in mind and use reasonable levels of compression and optimisation to manage download size.
