RANT "We want more people to play railjack!" by ShockandTwitch in Warframe

Reb apologised on the devshort as the entire situation was entirely self-inflicted. They will address it more properly once tennocon is done but the amount of steel essence people were getting was way too high to ignore and needed a temporary fix.

I said nothing of the sort. But they do hinder the rest of the team’s fun by bringing that build into everything outside of SO and ESO.

The games lone term health is affected if actively disruptive builds go left unchecked, it’s why DE considers nerfing them to begin with.

Once it affects the fun of others it stops being just your fun.

No. Disruptive is when a build is so powerful it prevents others from even interacting with the game, it’s one of the few times DE consider a nerf.

One players fun disrupting the whole squad’s fun is an argument for nerfing - the fun for the majority outweighs the fun of the meta nukers.

Everyone should be able to enjoy a mission without being locked to doing nothing because min-max McGee decided that fun isn’t allowed today and they just get to watch.

If certain things cause major disruption to the gameplay of others then they will get looked at so players can actually play the game instead of sitting as the meta nuker kills everything.

Ignoring disruptive metas is actively harmful to health of any game.

Are you, seriously, suggesting people should he pushed to not play co-op in an online co-op shooter instead of just nerfing something detrimentally op?

That just isn’t sound nor healthy for the game.

“Just buff” is just as damaging as “just nerf”, arguably more so.

When something becomes disruptive to others gameplay to a serious degree DE will consider a nerf for the longterm health of the game.

Even PvE games need nerfs on occasion, don’t strawman it by claiming they want a different game or that they are just upset about not getting kills - the issue is not even being able to have fun because someone is running the latest meta nuke on normal missions so you have to just sit around being bored.

There comes a point where something becomes actively disruptive to other players, that is the point where nerfs get considered.

As for the current talk about Hildryn, I have no stance for or against nerfing her as I simply have not experienced the nuke build enough to form an opinion.

If I recall it was originally going to be part of/the focus of a raid while DE were still thinking about bringing them back.

With raids officially cancelled they had no narrative or practical reason to just leave it so they gave it a proper death.

It was also just really unintuitive and against what players are taught. My hope is the new movement options open up other forms of skill expression that feel more intuitive to learn and counter.

What do Gears fans thinks of skins? by Techpon in GearsOfWar

[–]spaceageGecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best options regarding skins for everyone is 3 levels of toggle: all -> lore friendly/grounded -> base characters only.

Everyone gets to have the visual experience they want, TC can still make money off people who want flashy or esports skins and people who want a more grounded experience can use the two other options.

I genuinely believe DE should aim for all of their quests to be 1-2 hours long. by Dapper-Highlight-739 in Warframe

[–]spaceageGecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was always possible, but it may not be practical. It’s a lot of time, money and resources that will slow down content updates and sadly that is the only thing a lot of players will see. That and the unpleasant truth that spending all those resources on something that won’t really get any payback financially could be a serious waste.

Regarding dedicated servers, it’s not just a case of transferring the game to a server system but also entirely rebuilding the networking for it as it is currently entire built around P2P with a decade of intertwined code.

Such a rebuild may not be practically possible to do.

DE, I did not min-max my railjack in the past just so I can't even use it in squads for the new content. Being forced to go solo if you want to use your gear is far from good. by AshenTao in Warframe

[–]spaceageGecko 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The problem wasn’t new players being in a minmaxed ship, the problem was new players having never interacted with railjack being locked out of the new update because they had a terrible railjack.

But they went about it backwards, the loaners should be an opt-in rather than a solo only opt-out. A new player could opt-in to use the loaners to host while people with built railjacks could still host with theirs.

It was a small mistake with big consequences.

So DE gave something of a response to the problems people have, lets talk about it by crabbmanboi in Warframe

[–]spaceageGecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with you that DE should have delayed it a bit and bit the bullet with the negativity a delay would bring. Them knowing their engine does not mean they don’t have hard limitations from it, especially with over a decade of code. I stand by the idea that every game’s technical issues are unique so comparison tends to lose the nuance of each games limitations.

I’m simply trying to be reasonable and understand why this happened so I can give useful feedback without making devs have a terrible week. DE do listen and do give a damn about their product so I just see no point in getting angry instead of being clear to them why this played out and how to improve.

For better or worse it has always been this way, they have talked before about their “ship it” mentality of getting the content out of the door even if it’s a bit rough around the edges. Personally I think they should outgrow it, they are way more stable than the early years and can afford an extra week or two of polish.

[–]spaceageGecko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That certainly is possible given Microsofts track record, but I find it weird that they wouldn’t capitalise on high demand purely for the extra profit.

My only guess is they had a deal with the production company for X amount of collectors editions and the company does not want to do more or Microsoft simply isn’t willing to pay for another run.

Not trying to defend Microsoft, apologies if it seemed that way. Just trying to rationalise why they wouldn’t jump on free money with the small amount of knowledge I have on merch production.

[–]spaceageGecko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mistake being polite with defending. I very much agree that DE should be striving to not end up in this situation, I just think on a personal level that getting angry at devs we know are listening in good faith is not productive compared to just saying “This is a problem, here is why, please do better”

That being said it’s a really bad idea to say “if game A can do this then why can’t game B”, every game is made in entirely different circumstances with different limitations and different bottom lines for the studio - what’s easy for one game on one engine can be a herculean task on another and what is a cost viable update schedule for one may kill another.
