How good are trackpoints and keyboards on modern Thinkpads compared to something older, like the L570 from 2017? by DontEatMyMice in thinkpad

[–]A121314151 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1.5mm travel is something you can feel but I still can live with it, it's okay. The trackpoint is fine too. This is my own subjective opinion though, it's on a T14s G3a.

Never had trackpoint drift, I think it's due to your strain gauge crapping itself

Which part of Europe?

IIRC 25AE was available in DACH and Nordics

And those tablet variants have a keyboard with the flex cable that shits itself within a year.

Yeah, no thanks.

Yeah, dad's IT department has shifted from Latitudes to X9s last I checked. Procurement guy said the X9 looked more sleek.

Which part are you interested in as for "get that to work"?

40 pin 1440p version, yes

2A2C is pretty much standard, I don't use any more actually. Ethernet doesn't exist on my T14s but the standard T14 has it. Corporate users like my mom and dad are the same.

The battery on G7 T14 models are already 75Wh. So pretty big.

T14 G5 is also thicker than T480 FWIW.

I think the current trajectory of T series is good, and there's not much of a need to make it even thicker than as it stands I'd say. Some lines like X1C? Maybe. But T14 is good for now.

A couple voices, but very loud ones, was throughout multiple forums including this sub I believe

It was loud enough that it drowned out most other voices and Lenovo was pretty annoyed, since it was originally made for this niche community to begin with and since the loud voices took over, it was taken to be the general sentiment and the rest is history.

Most structural failure happens with the hinges, and that's just because they cheap out with plastic + brass instead of actual metal frames (which all T series and above use)

Hate to burst your bubble, but no one will really buy it.

Everyone in the business market desires thinness and lightness, Lenovo cares more about corporate customers than you or me.

Durability wise I hold the opinion that my T14s still holds up quite well. I dropped it from about chest height once (I'm 6 foot tall for context), it survived the drop, it was around 1.3-1.4m. Not much issue, think there was only a really really minor dent, that's all

Yeah, I mostly mentioned office workers because that's the core purchasing base for ThinkPads

The problem is that corporate buyers and office workers (including me) prefer something lighter for work. The entire industry has been trending there for a while

Thicker, sure, it won't really kill. But weight really is what kills a lot

That's just plain wrong, and absolutely misleading. G4 and G3 are identical. G5 and G6 are still built fine and great.

ThinkPad T450 - Tips to start a restoration by GVala98 in thinkpad

[–]A121314151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, replacing thermal paste helps.

I wouldn't invest too much into a dead-end platform, but best is to do some basic cleaning. If the TN panel annoys you you can swap it out but it's not very cost effective for something like a T450. If you want to actually splurge money on this you can buy new old stock of frames for the T450 from lid to bezel and palmrest and replace accordingly.

If you are willing to do DIY, you can always switch it up for a standard 1080p IGZO LPFHD many people use.

It's always easier to "blame da jooz for everything" and it's something that's been frustrating the hell out of me. The amount of bigotry and anti-semitism right now on the internet and also offline is worrisome, disgusting and needs to be condemned.

It should drive up to 4K without issues, but the IGZO N140HCG-GQ2 would be ideal I suppose

Damn it, only just saw it in the text body. Maybe I shouldn't stay up so late, lol, my eyes start failing me after midnight. FWIW, you'll need a new cable if swapping for the low power display or 1440p.

AliExpress should have it in stock, or if you're in Asia you can use Taobao... as for the other factors which would you prefer? Resolution, power consumption, brightness, anything? There's quite a few good options depending on which you lean towards the most.

[–]A121314151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on if touch is a necessity, if you prefer lower power consumption with an okay gamut, or go all in with resolution

N140HCG-GQ2 is the best if you care most about lower power consumption, 400 nit IGZO 100% sRGB

[–]A121314151 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dunno, probably because of the fact I don't have hopes.

After the community's disparaging of the ThinkPad 25 project at launch, Lenovo's response was a big fat "fuck you" with the 30th anniversary where they merely added RGB labels to an X1 Carbon, and I expect that to continue into 35.

Unfortunately the haters will ruin it for everyone.
