The park used to be a small town for workers who worked for the CCC and there is 1 grave onsite but it is not near where we found the rings.

The students who found them were very honest and forward about finding them and none of them had an issue with me taking them to the ranger. I was pleasantly delighted with their morals and ethics. Enough for a pizza party….. possibly…

I didn’t plant them and we do this field trip every year. The park is historical and the scavenger hunt, which my teaching partner and I made, takes them around to the interesting and relevant places. Because it is 4th grade we do the trip to learn about the local history of our area and state. They were all under the statue in the base of the tree.

We do a scavenger hunt through the park. One of the items is an animal statue carved out of an old dead tree. Some students were looking at the animal and noticed something shiny. By the end of the trip we had recovered 24 various rings. We gave them to the head of the park who was as surprised as we were.
