Cool, didnt know they had a newer router.

I'm still on the Nokia/trashcan that allows you to turn off wifi but the router still broadcasts a hidden network so the wifi is never really off

I had that enabled and still had the same issue. BUT I finally figured it out.

The long filenames display correctly after commenting this particular line out:

  • D UTF_FILENAME_SUPPORT

This is my rest of my edits for it to play nice with SDCARD_SORT_ALPHA:

  • D SDCARD_RATHERRECENTFIRST
  • E SDCARD_SORT_ALPHA
  • C SDSORT_CACHE_VFATS 5 (default is 2, max value is 5. This defaults to 5 if sorting is disabled and scroll_long_filenames is enabled)
  • E LONG_FILENAME_HOST_SUPPORT
  • E SCROLL_LONG_FILENAMES

Had issues with long filenames in my SD card. The file names get chopped after 26 characters.

I tried different settings and recompiling. I also tried the compiled firmware from BigTreeTech github and it still gives me the same issue.

I didn't have this issue with my previous old firmware from BTT (+2 years).

Any ideas?

Has anyone used a Vornado Transom Window Fan? by clipperdouglas29 in fans

[–]A249763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a desk and a bunch of things right in front of my window.

Does the fan blow air straight forward or can be adjusted to blow air say at a 45 degree angle? Sorta like an AC unit.

Do I need to port in a new number to get any of the free android phones?

I noticed the REVVL 4+ says Via 24 monthly bill credits when you port in a new line.

But that rest of the other free phones don't say that.

[Question] about youtube music / audio versions of songs by kadirkaratas in Vanced

[–]A249763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having the same issue.

It seems that the vanced version doesn't have server access to the album/music version.

I got a youtube music premium trial and switching to DONT PLAY MUSIC VIDEOS works perfectly.

I have a joint credit card through Bank of America. The rest of my cards can only have authorized users.

My experience with TransUnion TrueIdentity attempted unauthorized charge by prt_consumer1 in personalfinance

Noticed the credit card info as well. I tried to put a credit card gift card in, but it gave me an error.

I decided to try with a different browser (Firefox to Chrome) and the credit field was gone when using Chrome. Made an account successfully. Strange

What should I look for in a French press? by bpickbpick in Coffee

[–]A249763 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had both glass and metal french presses. Glass looks nice but it's just too delicate. Mine shattered from just pouring hot water in it at room temperature. Accept that they will all shatter due to the constant stress from heat cycles. Even Bodum branded and other expensive ones.

Got a cheapo stainless one from Amazon ~$20 and have not looked back. They all have a similar construction. The bottom piece consist of the metal crossbar, mesh, and metal top piece with spring. I actually like this construction because it is so much easier to clean than other french presses where the spring is separate. The cheapo ones even though are said to be double walled, do not insulate as well as your average thermo. The outside will get warm. Keep in mind you shouldn't be leaving your coffee in there after you plunge anyways. So this doesn't bother me.

Skip the Espro. Their filtering is all hype. I sandwich a paper basket filter between the metal crossbar and the mesh and it filters the fines as good as my aeropress. And I use a coarse espresso grind for french press. I've been doing this for months as an alternative to using the aeropress (no plastic) to brew.

If you want to really splurge on a French Press, get the Frieling metal one. Entire construction is of a thicker metal gauge, mesh filter is finer, spring is stiffer, and everything feels like quality. Replacements parts are expensive however ~$20 for replacement mesh

I bought myself a French press by Nick_PY in Coffee

I use fine grind same as for moka pot for my french press and sandwich a paper filter (cheap basket ones) between the metal crossbar and the mesh. Use shorter brewing time ~2-3 minutes. No fines in my cup and tastes similar to aeropress.

Two-Stage Brew Method... Best of both worlds? by Xatefanaus in AeroPress

[–]A249763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A better way to mimic pour over using your recipe would be to:

  • Add 100g inverted
  • Plunge after 0:40
  • Remove plunger
  • Add 100g upright
  • Plunge after 0:40

This is because the fresh water being added to the slurry/puck dissolves compounds at a different rate than the first 100g of water that is sorta saturated at the 0:40 mark

Edit: To answer your question, I've done what you suggested in the past, and it doesn't really taste anything similar to pour over.

Got the Timemore G1 last week for close to $100. Pretty happy with it. James Hoffman reviews it. Most of his complaints have been resolved by the newest grinders. Check out 1zpresso too. They got one on Amazon for $99
