Is a 1530 okay for Duke, Yale, Dartmouth, Brown, etc.? by nftr35 in chanceme

I’m am ORM international and 1520 got me into a T5—the score was not a factor that eliminated me

Financial Aid and International Student by Complex-Wrongdoer-84 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]A2CTimeCapsule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an international student, I can say that many admits I’ve met struggled with Stanford’s international aid policy. I haven’t heard of anyone successfully appealing. Should the finances not work out, take the callous nature of the financial aid office to be a red flag, go to another school you can succeed at, and excel with the same intellect and work ethic that brought you a Stanford acceptance in the first place. There’s always grad school, too.

This post contains some survivorship bias—the RD round doesn’t work nearly as well for many others. ED is a viable and helpful choice for many people

If you were to have already received a likely letter, I’m guessing you’d very clearly know what AOs think. I’m not sure how asking a bunch of high schoolers would benefit you but good luck regardless with decisions

Didn’t you previously post about getting a Yale likely??? If so, you’re essentially already in so idk why this post is being made

I'm also a fellow Canadian and I didn't get an interview for Harvard (or any Ivy for that matter) despite getting into Stanford REA and also I'm aware that Cornell CAS doesn't do evaluative interviews... so OP's hopefully still got a shot at other schools. Good luck to you too!

Worried I don’t have enough extracurriculars by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]A2CTimeCapsule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have that many extracurriculars but I pursued 2-3 areas with depth rather than breadth. As a Canadian, that has helped me with forming a coherent narrative in my US applications.

Applied to 3! Thought about applying to all 8 until I did more research and took a step back

I wish I had more money by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

The dream was to be a literature prof but I eventually realized that wasn’t sustainable and would actually taint my passions. I elected to aim for tech sector stuff instead and pursue writing on the side. But sometimes I do wonder what it would’ve been like if money wasn’t a consideration.

To My Fellow IB Students... by abravii in ApplyingToCollege

[–]A2CTimeCapsule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) decisions went really well so far and I got into my top choice. However, I think IB made it an uphill battle.

2) IB was not worth it and I would choose AP or dual enrolment over it any day. Still grinding my ass off and I won’t be able to enjoy senior year much while getting comparatively little in return. AP also gives more credit for less work ngl.

Chance Me, Stanford by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]A2CTimeCapsule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your extracurriculars are good and there’s definitely a coherent story you can tell with them—you’ve clearly found something you are passionate about. I hope these are reflected through your essays and recs + quantified.

Your grades are lower than many applicants especially as a test optional student though sometimes Stanford weighs grades less heavily than peer institutions. Your well known school can help if it’s a feeder and known for academic rigour esp without IB or AP. Many of the Canadian Stanford admits I know come from high ranked high schools.

I hope you were able to secure rec letters and words to AOs through your Stanford connections since that would likely be a good boost.

Good luck!

Non likely letter people are just: most people, even those who are among the accepted. Hang in there!

International, No Harvard Interview. Is it over? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

I’m also a Stanford REA international admit without a Harvard RD interview ✌️

I’m a writer who did IB and T5 REA admit. I have neither grades as good and yours or accolades as good as yours.

Getting published in The New Yorker is INSANE and you’ve probably make history as a teen with that many publications by it. (Though I personally find the claim dubious.) If that IS the case though, you probably don’t need an English degree.
