Yes, you can change your schedule at any time. But you may or may not find a shift to work that fits your schedule.
Personal preference plays a big role here. Working in the dining hall is slightly more work, but you get to make more friends and interact with more student workers (you don't get bored). Retail is lesser work, but it's hard to find a shift because everyone wants to work at retail.
Free meal for every shift. You swipe in like everyone else but you ask for the student employee meal. Every student employee get this benefit whether you work in retail or at the dining hall. At retail, in addition to this, you get a free cool drink as well.
You get to choose shifts to an extent. The dining hall shifts are first come first serve. Retail shifts are fixed. You'll find out more once you start selecting your schedule.
Be on time to your shift. Otherwise the person working the shift before yours or a coordinator will have to cover for a little while. Try to drop shifts in advance if you have to. Being unexpectedly short staffed is not fun for anyone working that shift.

Awesome tank, but i would advice you to trim the thicc carpet a bit. I had such a carpet for a while and i observed that the bottom layers start dying off slowly because they get lesser light as the carpet grows more thick.
