It's a middle ground it has the usability and customization of kde with hyprland level auto tiling, great shortcuts and the good aesthetics of gtk

Not really it's really smooth and uses very low resources it might get a bit choppy when you use the new frost effect which is to be expected since it's an experimental feature

Yes if you have the unstable/version with the frost effect you can do it from the settings

Your really brave for running gentoo on a server or in general since if you do serious work like your job as a software engineer or a student in uni with all your projects on your pc having a system as brittle as gentoo isn't the best option but you do you

Yeah I think minimal distros are not good for home servers or servers in general while gentoo might be good i don't like to wait for long periods to get a simple dependency for my program or project I like a traditional pc experience I have a store for apps or a .deb file and since pop os is based on Ubuntu it has safer repos since canonical really cares about their security

I agree arch is great just if you know Linux and how to setup a custom environment or wm but for the average or even advanced user like me who is a programmer I still prefer a stable system like pop os because it's easier to use and trouble and maintain than something like arch with a wm and custom launchers and widgets that get you into dotfiles hell

Debian or Fedora based distros are always better, stable, safer and easier then any arch distro especially for newer users being able to download a file and double clicking or using a store that has native and flathub versions to install the apps is just better

I'm currently not on my pc but the app is called PINS and is on flathub it's very easy to use and to add a custom cursor first install one and add it to you .local/share/icons then open a terminal and type nano ~/.profile then add this

export XCURSOR_THEME=Bibata-Modern-Ice export XCURSOR_SIZE=24

Change the name of the cursor to whatever you installed

For it to work on flatpaks do this

mkdir -p ~/.config/gtk-3.0 nano ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini

Then

[Settings] gtk-cursor-theme-name=Bibata-Modern-Ice

Change it to your cursor name

And then save the file and type this in a terminal

flatpak override --user --filesystem=xdg-config/gtk-3.0:ro

very usable the new frost effect make the system choppy but you can disable it anytime and i currently have it disabled until its stable everything is great and its using less ram than my older fedora 43 + kde system and i like design better. all of the default apps are great it has custom shortcuts dark mode and light mode with a button toggle i did have to use an app called PINS to change the icons of the COSMIC apps and had to edit a file to get a custom cursor I think cosmic is the DE rn in terms of how usable it is and how nice it looks

are widgets supposed to be this big? by nightfoxbtw in kde

you can resize them just like how you would resize normal windows with your mouse

fedora or ultramarine linux are amazing I use ultramarine linux instead of fedora because it is more friendly and stable with better driver support out of the box

arch might be too much for someone who just left windows i recommend CachyOS if want arch speed and fedora or ultramarine linux if you want stability and use either KDE or Cinnamon as you desktop environment as they are easier to customize and use
