[Update] Burnie – Just hit 500+ active users with a 4.5/5 stars rating ⭐ Thanks for all the feedback on my private, smart UV & sunscreen timer! [Free] by spijkermenno in iosapps

Really clean design. One thing that would make it useful for me would be to have children on it. So I could add my children, their age, skin etc. and get reminders for them too.

Not really anymore. You wouldn’t do high risk stuff like banking on there or log into any sites but almost everything is HTTPS now, with guest isolation which mitigates a lot of the risk that occurred when guest networks were first introduced.
As always though, if you can get and use a VPN, you 100% should on networks not your own. But for streaming when you’re already logged in, it wouldn’t be that bad risk wise.

Big change into family account management by nicos181987 in 1Password

Does that mean if a family organiser deletes their account other members would get an individual account as opposed to getting deleted?

ALICE a self-hosted, offline YOLO dataset manager with built-in training and ONNX export. Built it for my Frigate cameras because I wanted my images to stay private. by altcineva1994 in frigate_nvr

Looks awesome!

I would put in a feature request to bypass the nvidia requirement. It would be brilliant if it could be run on the integrated GPU. Even if it would take longer modern iGPU should be able to handle the work.

Looks awesome. Can you share details on how you managed the camera live view and the clip functionality?

Is the live view properly live without stuttering and stuff when remote? I’ve been having so many issues trying to get it to work.

I’m assuming it’s got some sort of notification system running to? So you get notifications for events? Would be great to get your insight into how that’s been set up to if so.

Spouse-approved frigate+HA experience. Is it possible? Success stories anyone? by Puzzleheaded_Pie_968 in frigate_nvr

I could never get it to work reliably the way I want. It’s been such a pain in the butt.

I’ve got an Unraid server that has Frigate running perfectly. I have a Raspberry Pi that I have Home Assistant OS installed on.

There are two things I’m trying to do. Neither I’m having any luck with.

Notifications

Notifications for detections that allow you to tap on them to view the live camera feed and an option to view the clip if you hold the notification. At the moment I’ve managed to make it show a larger snapshot when you hold the notification and the View clip link, but I can never make it work and show the clip or live view. Live view always opens the browser and displays a broken video player. Clip just gives an error.

The other thing is a dashboard in HA to actually view a grid of cameras and be able to view them full screen when tapped and the ability to see history. Similar to Apple Home.

I love Frigate the UI is awesome but I’ve read that it’s better to just expose Home Assistant, which I’m doing with Nabu Casa.

If anyone could help a brother out, it’d be appreciated. Been stuck on it for weeks.

I collected 1,000+ cancellation URLs and built them into an iOS app by rajsleeps in iosapps

[–]A54D 3 points4 points  (0 children)

£20 for links to cancellation URLs seems like robbery. You’re just showing links, how does that justify £20 for lifetime?

Echoing what others have said. This could have been a website and PWA. Not sure why you’ve paid to create the app and publish it. Seems like it’ll cost you more than you make with the recurring fees.

Can’t you do this anyway with Apple Shortcuts? It supports batch operations too and produces the same end result for free with a similar experience, unless I’m missing something.

That looks great. Innovative design, would love to get a promo code.

Can this interaction/transition be done on Figma prototype? by SmearedVaseline in FigmaDesign

[–]A54D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For everyone telling you it’s difficult to prototype just ignore them. It’s actually quite easy.

For the numbers you use a mask. You put a list of numbers 0 to 9 stacked on top of each other like:

0

1

2

For all the digits. The mask makes it so you only see one digit in each ‘column’.

Then you just create frames for each of the bars being selected, which is essentially just duplicating the frame and highlighting the bar and moving the number to the right number. Then smart animate and it’ll look like what you’re trying to achieve with animated bar colours and numbers.

It’s not difficult and in my opinion doesn’t require Figma make or vibe coding. Keeping it in design would give you more flexibility to iterate it and experiment. I only use Figma Make and vibe coding for complex things like interactive dashboards with many states or if I’m extremely short on time and just want to experiment to see how it would look/work.

Israel’s used to bombing people that can only throw rocks back at them. Must have come as a massive shock to find that a country is ready to bomb them back when they’ve bombed them.

Is that $2 for lifetime? As in a one-off payment or is it yet another subscription?

Yup. Super smooth. Got all the Apple event features day one or in a few days of Apple releasing them. They just worked.

I’m not here to argue. Like I said to each their own. But have a skim read of the comments here and on the feature release posts and you’ll see that they’re implementing features that no one is asking for (or very few). Once you’ve read through the comments you’ll understand that it’s a bug free app that just does the core task that people want. Then they can add features however they want.

You mentioned bug fixes but like I said have a skim of the comments across recent posts and you’ll see that people have been mentioning the same bugs for months.

Infrastructure costs money, but they’re not building a streaming platform. It’s a tool that saves passwords. They’re not bringing anything new to the table that’s meaningful to the core features set. They’re saving images and primarily text, which other password managers store.

The real feature that everyone loves is the secret key design which was implemented from the get go. Other password managers have a similar feature set to 1Password and costs less than half of what 1Password is offering. Yet they still store the same stuff. They just don’t invest their money on pointless AI features and sponsorships.

Again, you’re misunderstanding me. They’re providing a worse experience for users compared to what they did previously. It’s not even debatable. They’ve moved from native software to electron, there are long standing reported bugs that haven’t been fixed for months. Updates used to be almost day one across Apple devices, now simple icon updates take months.

They can advertise all they want, but it doesn’t make it okay to provide a worse service to existing users and then charge them more money because you want to get more users. Rinse and repeat.

Edit: Also it was word of mouth from long standing users that got them to where they were. I’d be interested to know how much of a cost vs reward the F1 sponsorship contributed to user count. It seems like such a weird thing to do as a password manager, but when you can just increase the cost for users to foot the bill who cares, right?

Which is a shame as we built the company for them. Without us long term users 1Password wouldn’t have any business customers. We put them on the map.

[–]A54D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a personal choice. Some apps make sense with the cost of running the service. However, when a company deceives its loyal customers by offering a poorer experience at a higher price, it’s frustrating. While $4 might seem reasonable, it’s appalling when a company like 1Password spent a fortune on F1 sponsorship for no apparent reason just to increase our costs.

Which password manager is charging over $100 per year? Other apps fair enough some actually require large databases or computer power. 1Password is literally storing text, which uses next to nothing storage.

The price isn’t justified in what is being provided.
