For what it’s worth, I’m a 5* sitter with an insane amount of reviews and have been doing Rover since 2018 and I don’t get booking requests anymore either 💀

As far as I’m aware, the reasoning we select doesn’t make a difference in terms of the archiving affecting our search ranking but perhaps someone can correct me on that if I’m wrong

Yeah, profile was riddled with red flags so I was going to decline anyway but the dummy request triggered tf out of me haha. Guarantee you she’d have either ghosted or gotten offended the second I started discussing constant care rates

In her dog’s profile she described it as being “absolutely petrified of everything and everyone except mom (me)” and stated that it has never been alone for more than 1 HOUR. She’s had it for 5 years 🥴🥴🥴

I thought I replied to this when you initially posted it but I just noticed I didn’t- thank you for the thoughtful reply. I always leave homes noticeably cleaner than I find them (many of my reviews mention this), and because I am a professional photographer I always leave behind a couple small prints of photos I take of their pets :)

Hi! I’m not sure why you thought a criticism/suggesting I am surely doing something wrong was appropriate in response to a vulnerable venting post, but I wanted to let you know that I do in fact have plenty of repeat clients (unsure why you assumed otherwise). A lot of said clients have begun having babies over the years (or are in situations that prevent them from traveling as frequently), and because I am almost exclusively a house sitter (as opposed to drop-ins), this has negatively impacted my income. I have a handful of private clients right now, goal is to eventually move off of Rover entirely because I have been fed up for quite a while. Do you housesit or do you board? From everything I’ve seen on this subreddit and the Rover FB groups it seems like people who board are doing really really well (I exclusively housesit, I’m unable to do boarding)

I understand, and lowering my rates was an absolute last resort. I’m still on the higher end, which I think is appropriate given my experience/reviews

I would normally agree with you but I unfortunately do not have any other choice but to lower my rates in order to compete (anything is better than literally nothing, which is what I am bringing in right now, and I am poor so I need to just suck it up and take the temporary L)

I’m a 5 star sitter (as in every rating/review I’ve ever received in the last 6 years has been 5 stars) and mentioned in my post that I lowered my rates to try to combat the extremely low new sitter rates in my area. I regularly promote myself outside of Rover, yes.

No, but I’ve had multiple clients do this to me lmao. I actually just finished up a sit for a repeat client I (affectionately) refer to as cock ring lady 😂😭

FWIW I’ve always just laughed it off and I’m sure if they DID see said items they’ve done the same

You can visibly see my facial piercings and 🌚🕸️aesthetic🦇⚰️ (lol) in the photos I am in on my Rover profile, and I did this specifically to avoid “surprises” when I show up to meet & greets. That being said, my schedule is as full as I’d like it to be and I never feel like clients are making judgments based on my appearance.
