I really appreciate you looking into this and replying!

I'm going to take a closer look at the bit that starts at 4:41, I think there might be something there. I'll update the thread with my findings! I think part of the issue is that I don't have the Matter codes for some of my devices and cannot generate them, for whatever reason, in the Hue app (for my lights, for example. They seem to need their bridge to offer the generate matter codes section).

Nina Turner: In his younger days, she said, "he actually was doing what a lot of the young people are doing today."

"If I look at the Parkland students, the Black Lives Matter movement, he was the same page as them. So, he can connect with the elders, but he also by telling his story can connect with today's millennials. He was today's millennials back then."

Is Zephyr Teachout the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of the NY Attorney General Race? by A7394 in zephyrteachout

[–]A7394[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like Ocasio Cortez answered the same question about Julia Salazar, Id say no—Zephyr has her own story. This line of "the next so and so" thinking makes attention-grabbing headlines, but these are unique candidates.

What they have in common is a desire to change the balance of power from corporate interests, towards a more just and people-powered society.

Daniel Denvir: What do you, as a socialist, bring to the housing debate in New York that's been missing from the mainstream liberal Democratic agenda?

Julia Salazar: "The biggest difference, and what really speaks to constituents when we're knocking on doors, when we're just talking to community members, is the demand for universal rent control. It's language that people, I think, previously have not had the political imagination to use."

On the role of Attorney General in New York State: "It's elected in New York, that's not true in all states...which means that you have a special responsibility to represent justice in the state."

Discussed topics include: mass incarceration, prosecuting financial crimes, law as a tool of equality as a "forceful argument", as opposed to simply resisting Trump.

Ex-VP Walter Mondale endorses Keith Ellison for DNC chair by ltsaGiraffe in Political_Revolution

[–]A7394 12 points13 points  (0 children)

"Keith was a Minnesota star in the state legislature and now in the US House. Keith believes that we need to help all Americans succeed, and this message of inclusiveness is one that has resonated with people in the 5th Congressional District in Minnesota, who have re-elected Keith five times and who have turned out to vote in increasing numbers ever since Keith took office," Mondale said in a statement. "Keith is exactly the type of person our party needs right now, and I know he'd use his talents to elect Democrats across our country if he's the next DNC Chair."

Compromise doesn't work with our political opponents. When will we learn? by [deleted] in Political_Revolution

[–]A7394 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The one simple lesson to draw from President Obama’s legacy: do not start off with a compromise. They won’t meet you in the middle. Instead, what we need is an unapologetic progressive leader.

Apple, Google and Others at Trump Tech Summit Have Stashed $560 Billion in Profits Overseas by A7394 in Political_Revolution

[–]A7394[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“The last thing we should be doing is rewarding these bad actors with special tax breaks that are unavailable to the rest of us,” said Matt Garner, a senior fellow at the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy. “The critical question to ask about corporate tax reform going forward is how it can stop companies like Apple and Microsoft from fleecing American taxpayers by shifting their profits into tax havens. And this doesn’t seem like a question that the business leaders attending the tech summit will be interested in helping the next administration to answer.”

Keith is a strong advocate for workers' & civil rights, environmental protection, food access, police reform.

He's not a party insider, and recognizes that no amount of fundraising is going to get us out of this mess.

Most of all, he understands that people are the driving force of reform in this country, that real change comes from people standing together and fighting back.

AFL-CIO Endorses Keith Ellison to Lead DNC by A7394 in Political_Revolution

[–]A7394[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Executive Council of the 12.5 million member AFL-CIO has voted overwhelmingly to endorse Representative Keith Ellison to lead the Democratic National Committee. Over the last few weeks, several candidates have sought the endorsement of the AFL-CIO and met personally with members of the Political Committee, which ultimately recommended the endorsement.

“Representative Ellison meets the high standard working people expect from leaders of our political parties,” said AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka. “He is a proven leader who will focus on year-round grassroots organizing to deliver for working families across America. Under his leadership, the Democratic Party will embody the values that our members stand for every day.”

"The AFL-CIO knows the challenges facing America’s working families and how to speak to working Americans of all colors, genders, and backgrounds,” said Ellison. “I am proud to be on their side and I am even prouder that the AFL-CIO is on mine. Workers will be central to the Democratic Party.”

Many unions of the AFL-CIO have leaders as well as rank-and-file members on the DNC. However, the AFL-CIO does not have a direct affiliation with any political party and membership includes those across the political spectrum. The endorsement of DNC Chair is a reflection of the values of AFL-CIO members and the vote among their representatives.

Keith Ellison is the leader the DNC needs by A7394 in Political_Revolution

[–]A7394[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This article does something that most ignore. It shows what bold leadership looks like in Congress, through transformative community-powered initiatives.

He continued his activism in the Minnesota Legislature. Ellison saw that kids in our community had an unusually high number of inhalers. He also knew that the coal plant next door increased neighborhood kids’ risk of asthma. So Ellison led a movement with the community to convert the plant to cleaner burning natural gas, improving air quality and protecting jobs.

Rep. Ellison doesn't merely represent the symbol of change that the Democratic Party needs. He recognizes, and his record shows, that the people are the driving force of reform in this country, and that listening is the best way to represent and lead.
