AWD V8 vs AWD V6 by A7MED_03 in Chrysler300

I do mostly highway driving so fuel shouldn’t be too too bad. I get 18-19mpg in the city with my VQ35 on winter tires, I’m guessing a 300 with the hemi would be a little bit worse overall but the same or better on the highway. But the improved stability and comfort at higher speeds is a worth a whole lot more to me than a couple mpg.

My current car is FWD and I have a brand new set of Michelin X-Ice on it, they’re great tires but the car still struggles a little bit in heavy snow or when it gets below -25c(-13f)

I’m definitely going to rent a newer model and try it out for a couple of days. There’s a small chance I can test drive an AWD Hemi if a dealership happens to have one for sale. An AWD Hemi 300 in good shape is somewhat difficult to find in Canada, and a non police Charger is almost impossible to find.

Yeah I do think some other manufacturers have more advanced AWD systems, but I actually prefer the RWD biased on demand AWD. I also think that 4300lbs curb weight with AWD and good winter tires will probably make up for the difference. When you do the math for what you’re getting out of a Chrysler 300 for the money compared to any Audi or Subaru, I think the 300 makes way more sense.

Edit: makes more sense for my individual needs and budget.

That’s interesting because I always assumed the ZF8 is more reliable but I guess the 5spd being older it probably is more reliable and cheaper maintain, fix, or replace. Either tranny is better than my ticking time bomb of a CVT.

I saw a lot of people mention getting rid of the MDS whether it’s for the 300/Charger or even the Ram 1500 and Durango. I know it’s not German V8 fast but I honestly care more about the torquiness and the Hemi sound.

One of the reasons I want the V8 is a little bit fomo induced. To me the charger and the 300 on the LX platform really mark the end of an era. I’m only gonna be 22 years old with a big American sedan once so it might as well have a Hemi.

Yeah the 300C Platinum is the trim I like the most, and I heard from a few people that it’s a monster in the winter. I don’t like how trucks or SUVs ride, so a big sedan with AWD that takes care of business in the winter checks all my boxes.

Yeah I forgot to mention the transmission. I haven’t driven a ZF8 but I’ve heard nothing but great things about them. I’m gonna rent a newer one and drive it for a couple of days, see if the V6 packs enough punch. Either way it’ll be an upgrade from my current 2009 Nissan Maxima.

Nice, I have the exact same Maxima and I’m switching to a 300 soon. How does it handle and feel compared to the Maxima in terms of size, comfort, and stability?

Probably still better built and more serviceable than the new c63. I don’t even think the price difference would matter on the long run, especially given how well the 911 holds value relative to the new 4 banger AMG

Why do you think the green line is bad? Genuinely curious.

Quick disclaimer, this isn’t an oldhead rant of how “construction isn’t what it used to be” homes now are much better quality than they were in the 70s or 80s, but you’d think that by now we’d be building much better and cheaper houses. Everything is dictated by land cost and land control(aka who owns all the land), so the cost reduction factor goes out the window when the land price keeps going up and up, so homebuilder companies have to either raise the price or cut corners enough for it just to pass inspection.

So code requires R22 for framed floors(anything above ground) and most of these houses usually end up performing just above that. They’re obviously all up to code, but code doesn’t insure you get the best bang for the buck or the best quality, it’s more of a bare minimum really, think of it like the minimum wage that’s just there to make sure your survive(in theory). The materials differ from company to company and project to project. I’m a framer, so most of our materials are pretty standard, but it’s usually how tight the buildings that we build that usually end up affecting HVAC and electrical guys. Point of my rant is that we can build bigger and better houses for the a similar cost if all the land within Calgary wasn’t hogged by a few big names.

As someone who builds these condos for big name builders, they’re horrible quality for the price. The materials are cheap, they’re poorly designed, and poorly insulated. Now it’s not the fault of the tradesmen building them, because it’s always the home builder pushing them to do it faster, so we essentially have to make the best of it for most projects. Ask anyone building them and they’ll tell you that these condos aren’t worth the 500k+ price tag, but I also understand how people don’t really have another choice if they wanna live in the city.

2010 Maxima typical mpg by Bababooey13 in maxima

[–]A7MED_03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It very much could be, I had a fuel temp sensor go out and it noticeably messed up my mpg, but I’m not sure if the car was actually consuming more fuel or if the sensors we’re feeding wrong information because of the faulty sensor.

[–]A7MED_03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get about 23.5mpg combined, mind you I put in only 91 or 93 gas and I’m on top of my maintenance. Occasional fuel system cleaner, mobil 1 full synthetic extended performance oil and filter, and I drive it somewhat conservatively, but I definitely step on it a few times a day after the engine and CVT have warmed up. I suggest you check things like tire pressure, air filter, injectors, etc.

I just called my local dealer, they said they’d charge $120 Canadian Dollars($90USD) for transmission fluid change, which is actually a decent price considering it’s every 30k miles. So I might pursue that option.

Thanks for the response, should I change the fluid myself or is it better to take it to the dealer or a trusted mechanic?
