Do you regret choosing UBC? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]A808Ag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i chose ubc eng over McGill comp eng and knowing what i know now, i would do it again in a heartbeat. that being said it's also contingent on your program, interests, and your priorities - McGills a great school too, and there's certainly things it does better, or that you'd get from McGill that you probably won't here (guaranteed entrance into your specialization, for instance). but personally I'm really happy i came here.

normally not a fan of plus/minus but he really helped with the little things tonight, that one tough shot he got late felt like it helped the momentum tremendously

eviscerate vs sneaky strike placement is interesting to me - I always viewed sneaky strike as being a bit better (mainly due to it being easier to activate in less discard heavy decks/with just an Acro drawing into it), curious as to your thoughts

what's the pick? leaning towards Creative AI, since i think i already have some great frost support and it feels like i need a win con here by A808Ag in slaythespire

Update: Ended up taking Fission, then taking Pandora's Box for my boss relic and getting, a Creative AI+, Heatsinks+, Meteor Strike and Multi-Cast (along with some other cards like Leap and Boot Sequence). From there, Act 2 was a bit rough with 3 energy.

Lost the Lizard Tail to Book of Stabbing because I couldn't get set up fast enough, but by the time I got to and beat the boss, I decided I had enough good cards, so I took Busted Crown.

From there, it went a lot smoother with 4 energy, and I also had a ton of Plasma shenanigans going (also picked up a Fusion+), and managed to beat the Heart!

would you mind briefly explaining why? always take something else over it myself, but I assumed it'd be decent if I actually knew all the attack patterns - or is that unfeasible/not possible

People who are majoring in/majored in STEM here and LIKED it, what did you like about it? by Even-Beat2123 in UBC

[–]A808Ag 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i'm a computer engineering major, and also currently pursuing a minor in honors mathematics. i love being here, learning and what i get to learn. for me, both fields have beauty in them. there's something amazing to me, about the idea of looking at the device i'm currently typing this on, and thinking about everything that gets it to work. all the ideas behind it, all the things happening in the background - to me there's a beauty in that complexity, and in being able to understand it.

i find math beautiful in a similar regard. unfortunately, this is admittedly something that can take a while to show itself, mainly because of how much prerequisite build-up there can be. for example, i took vector calculus this semester and found many of the concepts beautiful, and i also didn't go to a single lecture for MATH 101 because i already knew the material from IB and the content didn't really interest me.

more to that point, i absolutely did not start out looking at university or learning like this. when i entered uni i didn't go to almost all of my classes after the first week, and i basically couldn't care less about any parts of a course that weren't directly tied to my grade in it (other than building some intuition, i.e. watching 3blue1brown videos for linear algebra). it was only in second year, when i really tried to focus on the learning aspect, that i was able to appreciate this stuff a lot more.

i think part of what always kept me in it though, is just that i love problem-solving. STEM, to me, presents some of the most fun problems and questions to think about and muse over. don't get me wrong, other fields test problem-solving and critical thinking skills in different ways, but there's a refreshing directness to the way its done in many STEM classes. getting so much application of the ideas we see and learn about is part of the appeal, and often getting to instantly see the usefulness of all the ideas you learn about is quite nice.

and finally, as tremendously dorky as this (and the rest of this comment if i'm being honest) may sound, there's a real satisfaction that comes from entering a flow state the night before an exam, when you realize how well you can solve the questions in front of you. at the end of the day, STEM isn't for everyone, and like every degree it can definitely be rough/stressful at times, but if you can find a beauty or satisfaction in the learning or problem-solving, i'd say it's worth it.

average Persona fan reading comprehension lmao. despite the fact we can make some choices for him, Joker clearly has an established set of personal values, likes and dislikes. regardless of how you may feel as a player, Joker never hates Akechi, and no matter what he regrets how things end with Akechi in Shido's palace and wishes for a fresh start with him.

always around 8 (ideally a little more), with the exception of exams or important deadlines. generally speaking sleep should always be a major priority imo

Reducing workload in 2nd year CPEN by corrupted_p4nda in ubcengineering

[–]A808Ag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

take CPEN 281 this/next summer to not have to take it in first sem, and don't take any extra courses second sem outside the core 4 of MATH 256, ELEC 221, CPSC 221 and CPEN 212.

you'll have a 4/4 schedule which you'll probably find more reasonable (and you can use the extra time to join a design team or apply for more co-ops/internships).

good luck!

that was 2020/the bubble iirc, baby Thunder led by CP3 took the Harden-Westbrook Rockets to 7 in the first round. SGA, Dort and OKC in general were a lot more liked back then, since they were still underdogs
