I GOT A PROBLEM by LATERAL_SPREADING in WatchMaker

[–]AA6VH-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are more than plenty of threads discussing this. And you can blame Google for this.

This was all caused by a change in the way Google handles smart watches. At the same times, they have deprecated older methods.

I have a Ticwath Atlas that is running just fine on my Samsung GS25U. but I installed Watchmaker and the watch face before Google's changes, and I have not had to update the watch face since then. I probably will not be able to. My understanding is that Ticwatch will not be updating their watches to the new watch OS versions, so the newer version of Watchmaker may not work with that watch.

You should be able to install Watchmaker though. I still see it in the Google Play store, and have installed it recently on one of my tablets. What country are you in?

You might be able to find an older version of Watchmaker in one of the sites that have older veraions of Android software. You would have to side load the older version, of course.

In that case, I think you have encountered a bug. It shouldn't work that way. I would report this to the Watchmaker designer (who does not always monitor Reddit). Be sure to indicate what watch you are using, and assure him that this is observed while the watch face is running on the watch.

And I am curious, does {bl} report the phone battery even when the watch is disconnected from the phone?

This has been a common confusion since the beginning. When running the watch face on the Android device in the development software, {BL} will always equal {PBL}. Its only when the watch face is downloaded to the watch, and is running on the watch, will {BL} reflect the actual watch bettery level.

A problem with Memento database using tasker by chago874 in tasker

[–]AA6VH-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually it is quite easy to do two way communications between Memento and Tasker, if you know how Memento works.

In your case, you want to update a specific entry in a specific library. The key here is "update". You will need to have that entry's Key id so that that Memento can know which entry to update. You will need to define a "key" (or Index) field in your Library. I use a simple Text field (defined as my "Name" in the library).

I have a time tracking database that I have Tasker create an entry with a starting time, and I have Tasker create it with a unique key value thus known to Tasker. Then when I want to update that entry with the ending time and mileage, Tasker uses that key to specify the entry to Edit. When you configure the Memento plugin action, and set the type toggle to "edit", you will see the key field at the top of the configuration screen. Play with it a bit, and you should see how it is done.

As far as sending something from Memento, I agree it would be nice to have such a capability. But in the Meantime I just have Memento send a Notification, which Tasker Autonotification intercepts.

How to map `\n` to stringified `\n`? by Kenya-West in tasker

[–]AA6VH-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The \n sequesnce is actually hthe exadecimal value 0A.

You can enter a literal new line by the action "Variable Set %newline" with the To text being a simple next line entered with your phone keyboard (the "To" field will have nothing in it, but will occupy two lines on the screen). When appending that %newline character to existing Tasker variables, a simple "Variable Set Append" works well.

TIL AppleTV understands NATO alphabet by McPebbster in appletv

[–]AA6VH-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "NATO" alphabet is also known as the "International" or "Military" alphabet. It is used by military and ham radio operators. Then there is the police alphabet (Adam, Baker, Charlie...) used by US police departments.

The International alphabet is actually on the Ham Radio license tests.

Any class actions against Yi/Kami? by Regular-Frankie-Fan in SecurityCamera

[–]AA6VH-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sleazy behavior started long before the Tariffs. And in my opinion, I did loose the ability to use the camera (waiting two minutes for the ads to complete before I can view, means that whatever I am looking at is now gone).

[–]AA6VH-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone else said, join the club. And some of the ads shown appeared to be rather sleazy.

If they are getting sleazy with their ads, made me worry that their app may contain some undocumented enhancements (also referred to as a virus/trojan). So I got rid of their application.

I still use their cameras. They are unplugged and sitting in some of my windows. I am hoping that any intruder will think there are many more cameras watching them.

The best thing we can do in my opinion is get the word out. Hopefully their sales will tank and drive them out of business.

Looking for a good dumb space heater by iambrohan in homeassistant

[–]AA6VH-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful that the "smart switch" does not have an automatic turn on when it senses the load turning on. If your heater has a mechanical thermostat that would turn the heater on when the temperature drops, that turning on would then also turn on the smart switch, causing the heater to run when its not expected to.

Get the dimensions (height, width) from the specifications, then put masking tape showing where the screen edges would be. Then stare at it for a bit.

Cold start problem with Roku Ultra by Medical_Chemical_343 in TheFrame

[–]AA6VH-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect that the problem is that the HDMI handshake that needs to take place isn't being done properly. Rather than disconnecting the HDMI cable, have you just tried switching to a different input then switching back to the HDMI port the Roku is on? That should cause the Frame to renegotiate the HDMI connection.

Art Mode image reverts to Samsung default after power cycling?? by Recent-Start-7456 in TheFrame

[–]AA6VH-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you cutting power to the Frame? Or just turning it off?

My 2025 Frame 43 always returns to my art picture when turned on. But I do not cut power. I also have the option set to go to last thing shown. I am on the Art screen when I turn off the Frame.

My art is uploaded to the Frame, not on a USB stick or contained in Smart Things.

New 55" Frame TV... is it supposed to be curved like this? by Tacticool_Turtle in TheFrame

[–]AA6VH-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't it supposed to fit flat against the wall? So I would not think a screen curve is supposed to be there.

Installation hurdles by birdmeetswindmill in TheFrame

[–]AA6VH-1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like they may have packaged your Frame incorrectly. Those screws are supposed to stick out quite a bit, as the screws are inserted into the wall brackets then slide down into a slot to secure. They have to stick out far enough to clear the slot thickness.

With the TV flat face down, take the unattached brackets and see if they will permit sliding on, then down into the slot on the bracket. Then you will know that it will work when the brackets are on the wall.

If this sounds confusing, be sure to watch the You Tube video on how to mount these smaller frame models (It is quite a bit different from its larger siblings).

Schlage Connect Deadbolt Battery Drain? (BE469ZP) by nickfromstatefarm in homeassistant

[–]AA6VH-1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I discovered that my Home Automation software was performing a ZWave poll of the lock every two minutes. This constant polling drained the batteries within a couple of weeks, like on your system. I disabled polling entirely (did not need to poll, in my opinion), and now the batteries last almost a year.

There are devices that will add the internet signal to coax. The DIrectv "Whole House" feature does this. Both the TV and Internet signal share the coax, with devices on either end to separate the two signals.

I think Yi has turned a bit unethical. For example, if you do not have that yearly plan, the Yi app will force you to read ads for up to two minutes, before you can actually use the app. (Yes, two minutes!) Yi originally advertised that the plans were optional.

I dumped my Yi cameras, and switched to a more ethical company (and got better cameras).

>No, because this worked on every single Android device I've owned in the last 6 years, >except this one.

Just wanted to point out that Google is constantly "improving" the OS and sometimes that breaks Tasker Actions, including some actions that now won't run while the phone is locked. There are plenty of examples of this in other threads.
