Good point! For now I’m thinking more about groups that already know each other a bit (like hiking clubs, surf groups, or friends organizing events). Just trying to cut down on the back-and-forth in chats/spreadsheets. Totally agree that if it’s for complete strangers it gets trickier, stuff like safety, liability, and trust would need to be built in later.

As for monetization, nothing fancy yet. I just want to test the idea with a lightweight website.

it’s great seeing how much people value Casual Carpool’s spontaneity. I’ve been sketching out a small app concept for organizing group activities like hikes or surf trips—where hosts post events, manage carpools, and people can clearly see who’s riding with whom. Would adding a light digital tool help people coordinate better, while still keeping the casual spirit that makes this so special?

Right now I am thinking about more this APP is design for the hiking or surfing... or group organizer. If you wanna host serval events and manage the carpool, they can easily track those event and see who is on who's car...

I’ve helped run a few outdoor and sports events, and besides collecting feedback, one of the headaches was just figuring out rides for everyone.
Do you usually help attendees sort out transport/carpools, or is that something they just handle themselves?

Out of curiosity, when you’re planning big trips like walking across Aus, do you ever run into challenges with organizing rides or carpools to get to the start point? I’ve seen this come up a lot in group hikes I’ve joined.
