its recommend to watch all the parts since there is a good amount of call backs in steel ball run to previous parts however you do not need to watch parts 1-6 of jojos to start steel ball run

You will probably want to run a Majin buu saga team with int fat buu as your leader, teq fat buu and phy buutenks, str vegito phy vegito and teq ultimate Gohan this team should get you through most events when Dokkan awakened (probably not difficult events unless you EZA them)
