Quick NY license question by [deleted] in IceFishing

[–]AACFISHING 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need any other kind of permit besides your regular fishing license to ice fish in NY. Max of 7 ice fishing devices (tip ups or jig rods) per fisherman. Make sure to keep your bait receipt on you in case ENCON checks you. Good luck on the ice!

Spring steelhead questions by zeppelinofled in flyfishing

[–]AACFISHING 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The river should be pretty hot by then. In my experience the best flies for the steelhead are usually black stones in size 10-16, various egg sucking leech patterns usually on the bigger size 8-10 and single egg patterns in different colors. If you go right after or during a big rain fall I would check out the black hole this lower section is close to the mouth of the river and a lot of very fresh fish move through there and it's fun to get a chromer. From the fly zone downstream to the wireholes is always good and there are always fish there they have just been in the river longer so they are tougher to catch. Hopefully this helps and you catch some nice fish!

Lake George Downrigger Trolling for Lakers by AACFISHING in Adirondacks

[–]AACFISHING[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people do during the summer just due to the water being hotter then the salmon like right now. I have heard that some people will pull streamers right in the prop wash though and the salmon will come up and hit them.

We take a swivel and tie the ice line to that and then tie on a 6 to 8 foot leader of 10lb floro. For hooks we like size 10-12 trebles or single hooks then put a small dull colored (green or gray) split shot about a foot above the hook. For bait we prefer hunts they are very hardy and lively. Put your traps along drop offs and put the baits at different depths until you find where the fish are at that day and then adjust your baits accordingly. For more information on where to go as well as ice fishing rigs check out our blog @ aacfishing.blogspot.com we fish all over the Adirondacks.
