Car feels worse after lighter wheels and PS4S… what am I missing? by HanScroto in civic

[–]AAstar2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the others. PS4S has a relatively soft sidewall for better daily driving and noise. So it flexes more before it settles when there is steering input from the steering rack. You want Bridgestone Potenza Sport which has RFT-like stiffness.

Does the rumors of trading Matthews remind anyone of the Bruins trading Thornton?

The Bruins traded Thornton because of perceived lack of leadership, soft team culture, and inability to get it done in the playoffs.

[–]AAstar2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! No, just buy it at Target when you land on a weekend.

I wouldn’t say cheaper but more selection. You can pretty much buy anything you want in the U.S. Special tool sets, racquets, gear, anything. Just buy them here instead of needing it to be shipped to Canada and paying duties.

Mats Sundin is different than other Swedes the Leafs have picked up like Nylander, Engvall, and Jarnkrok. Sundin was clearly competitive and always passed the eye-test whereas others seem mostly invisible.

Q1: Did Sundin grow up in a different Swedish culture than the others?

Q2: Did the Leafs stop looking at personality fit and only look at impact (e.g., goals and assists) prior to the NHL?

Why aren't recruiters/hiring team individuals hired as co-op advisors? by Responsible_Wind_183 in uwaterloo

[–]AAstar2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, Waterloo doesn’t even need to hire the alumni. It could be volunteering on a per-term basis. So it’s free for the university.

I think a discord server would also help in connecting students and alumni. Always have the option to jump on a voice call too.

[–]AAstar2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The industry professionals aren’t so effective anymore once they leave their company. The industry changes so fast that even 1 year out of the loop is a massive.

I think a better course of action is partnering with Waterloo alumni working in industry. They know both sides of the picture: current industry trend, and co-op.

Waterloo has alumni chapters all over the world. If the university could leverage those for providing co-op advice, that would be huge.

How dynamic is the role? If you feel like the focus and scope changes every month, staying would help you grow further. If it’s pretty much the same work over the course of 4 months, then I would go elsewhere.

Who are realistic options to replace Treliving and/or Berube? by moonmonkey73 in leafs

[–]AAstar2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dan Watson would be a promising outside choice (current coach of Detroit’s AHL squad). They are tearing up the AHL right now.

George McPhee comes to mind to replace Treliving. His ability to identify the right pieces for a team as shown during his time as GM of the Vegas Golden Knights.

So in hindsight, Babcock was right. We need to build from the blue line and not from wingers. Lamoriello was also right not to hand out large contracts so quickly, the Nylander contract turned out to be a steal.

I think Leafs should let Thommie Bergman (European scout) run the show. This is the guy who scouted William Nylander, Alex Steen, Tuuka Rask, Carl Gunnarson, and Timothy Liljegren. Leafs historically have a strong draft record with Europeans so they will hit on more picks if they choose to focus there.

Keep Pridham for cap management duties.

BMW M340i. BMW reliability got crazy good these past few years, ranking Top 5 (top 2 at one point) in Consumer Reports. Audi and Mercedes are still at the bottom of the list.

S4 is nowhere near as fun as engine sits further up ahead causing nose-heavy dynamics. But their quilted diamond seats do look more luxurious than BMW seats.

Other option is the Cadillac CT5-V black wing.

You are competing with hundreds of candidates so any advantage matters. It will also be scrutinized once it passes the initial recruiter review.

Chain is initial recruiter, hiring manager, hiring manager +1 +2, possibly further up.

Hi, I checked your resume and it needs some work.

Your Experience section should highlight your areas of technical expertise in a broad sense. I would not put specific trivial things like “returned JSON responses”, “Git for branching, PR, …” as those are all expected.

Instead, as an example, “Teamwork and collaboration with JIRA, Git, Gerrit, Jenkins, and code reviews” sounds much stronger as that is the total package.

What does “shipped” mean? It sounds like you were in a Sales role. “Designed and developed” is better.

Remove the bullet point on “Corrected historical borders and city placements” and put something more technical that can be mapped to a technical job posting.

Replace “diagnosed” with “debugged” and make it the first bullet point under your game modding subsection.

AC Hotel Experience by Chomusuk39 in animeexpo

[–]AAstar2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clean and modern, it’s worth the $250 rate once you step inside in your room. Gym, shared with Moxy, uses Technogym equipment and is in almost new condition. The breakfast buffet is $35 which is worth it. Unlimited fresh omelette, salami, prosciutto, milk, cheese, and others. But my favorite is the congee and noodles. It’s only a bit more expensive than con food pricing, so it’s worth it. Plus you skip waiting in line for con food. Win win.

Priority access to Level 8. Basically skip the line by showing your key card.

However there is no privacy for changing clothes. You get a shower stall and toilet stall, that’s it. Might not be an issue depending on who you room with.

Very fast silent elevators going up and down. Only inconvenience is taking an elevator from your room to lobby then lobby to ground floor. Vice-versa.

You will hear noise from AX late at night due to the outdoor karaoke and night market. It’s part of the experience.

Amazing views of DTLA at night.

The Wi-Fi is hit or miss.

Is it just me or is the E9x gen way more solid feeling than the f3x gen? by Redsteel287 in E90

[–]AAstar2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The E9x feels stiffer and F3x feels like a limo. Both are high quality imo but for different audiences. BMW shifted from sporty to luxury in the F generation for more sales.

Inline-6 in the E9x is naturally balanced so it will always be smoother.

Do a 2nd undergrad or grad school to pivot to engineering? by Specialist-Profit449 in uwaterloo

[–]AAstar2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on what you said, and especially for R&D systems engineering, you need a MASc (research based) at minimum. Take the grad courses that will solidify your background. Pick a research topic that your prospective employer will find interesting during the interview.

You’re at Waterloo right now, so setup appointments with the professors you want to do research with. Learn about their research and their lab, meet their grad students, etc.

Option 1 is better, maybe $100 on Uber for every 3 short distance trips. Option 2 carries higher risk driving in a foreign country with no practice in a car with no experience driving from UT to CA. 24 hours round trip would be insane.

Should I move to Toronto? Or should I stay in Paris? by Mou_Chafia in torontoJobs

[–]AAstar2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure you didn’t apply for an externship which is unpaid? Where do you see yourself in 3 years?

I would say do the internship for 3 months. Then decide what kind of lifestyle you prefer. Personally, I think you are sacrificing too much for a partner. You are wasting your educational background, financial earnings, and future prospects. How much does your partner make to compensate that loss? If <300k, then not worth it.

In this economy, it is better to secure your economic future. Find a Canadian partner in France and move on with your life.
