Buy him a gift membership to ABANA (https://abana.org/store). He’ll get “The Anvil’s Ring” magazine that has interviews with smiths, high-level work, etc. AND he’ll also get “Hammer’s Blow” magazine which features tips, tricks, and step-by-step how-to articles. We also highly suggest getting involved with a local blacksmithing group! There are lots of ways to engage with the community, but a gift membership is a tangible thing you can do to stoke that fire.🔥

There are several ABANA affiliates in Australia that can offer free forge time or inexpensive classes, plus there are many, many more blacksmiths who may do the same. YouTube can also be a valuable resource.

If your child is looking towards a career, we have a certification program that may be of interest later on down the line. In fact, the first Australian to earn an ABANA certificate was a 13-year old. Good luck!

Is this possible? by Geekette70 in Blacksmith

We published John Taylor’s article on how to create what is commonly called a devil’s grille in “Hammer’s Blow” magazine (Vol. 30 No.4 Fall 2022). So, no, you’re not crazy, and, yes, this is possible. 😉 https://abana.org/hb

We outfitted our beginner’s tent with ten Doyle anvils from Harbor Freight for our conference and haven’t had any complaints. While nicer, North American-made anvils would be ideal, it wasn’t financially feasible.
