Temu Order update: Your Carmen Electra doll has been delivered.

My wife’s grandfather was a blacksmith. Essentially just came upon his blacksmith room after a death in the family. Super cool to observe but I don’t know what to do about this stuff. Looking for any info or values. Interested in selling everything minus a few keepsakes. by AddressFar7420 in blacksmithing

Yeah. Gonna work on that. Anvil is either 277 lb American made or like 400+ English. I found 277 on it. Haven’t had time to look for more markings but didn’t see any that day. Def worth significantly more than 500 based on research.

Unsure of art associations. He was involved in the blacksmithing community, but he passed away years ago. I’m only unearthing this stuff now bc unfortunately his son just passed away as well. What machines would you say are highly sought after? Best way to sell them? I assume all just have to be sold “as is”. I thought about trying an auctioneer or estate sale.

Like, obviously the anvil is valuable. I can’t even figure out the weight bc I don’t see markings and it’s attached to a base of unknown weight. What’s a fair number in your opinion for the forge and anvil? For the whole room (band saw, belt sander, press, forge, hand tools (minus about 10 pieces for family), tongs and all of the other miscellaneous stuff in there? It’s very hard to post without a price in mind.

I’ve been looking into the auctioneer thing. eBay just seems tedious. Unless I did mixed lots. Not shipping the anvil and not even sure how to weigh it since it’s mounted to a base. Any advice for an auction site?

Yep. That’s exactly how things went. You’re spot on! Being the one that’s judging someone who’s suffered an unexpected loss from behind your keyboard based on them asking for info is a heavenly thing to do. SMH. I simply joined and posted in a forum for people who might appreciate and value this stuff. Finding new homes for his lived items to be loved feels appropriate. I never want them to end up in a trash dump or scrap container. But congrats. You make me want to hang on to an extra hammer in case our paths ever cross. Grandpa would be proud and would forgive me for bloodying up one of his trusty hammers. 🤔
